Namgar
Namgar ( Buryat: Намгар) is a 4-piece music group that performs traditional Buryat and Mongolian music. Its leader Namgar Lhasaranova comes from the east borderland where three countries, Russia, Mongolia, and China meet. She inherited a rich singing tradition of the Buryat people who reside in Russian regions of Buryatia and Agin Buryat Region. The group necessarily comprises singing of Namgar Lhasaranova and instrumentalists from Mongolia. Instruments of the group include morin khuur, chanza, traditional percussion, etc. Background Namgar Lhasaranova performed solo or with modern groups at local and international venues since 1980 in a variety of genres including traditional songs, jazz and pop. It was in 2001 in Moscow that she and Evgeny Zolotarev (also spelled Zolotaryov) created a permanent group inviting Mongolian musicians Kh. Altangerel on morin khuur and Jamyangiin Urantögs on yatga. Buryat Music
Buryatia is a part of the Russian Federation. One of the country's main instruments is a two-stringed horse-head fiddle called a ''morin khuur''. This is an instrument closely linked to the all-important cult of the horse, belonging to the intangible heritage of all Mongolic peoples. Other elements of Buryat music, such as the use of fourths both in tuning instruments and in songs, and pentatonic scales, reveal similarities to music from Siberia and Eastern Asia. There traditionally was no polyphony, instead voices and instruments performed the same melody in unison but varied in timing and ornamentation. Narrative structures are a part of most Buryat folk music, often in the form of epic tales, and the last song of famous leaders; these include the ''Last Song of Rinchin Dorzhin''. Jamyangiin Urantögs
Jamyangiin Urantögs ( mn, Жамъянгийн Урантөгс) is a Mongolian singer. She was born into the family of Mongolian composer and multiinstrumentalist Ts. Jamyan. In the Western Mongolian city of Uliastai, she studied the '' yatag'', a traditional Mongolian zither, at the Music and Dance College in Ulaanbaatar. Later, she went to Moscow to receive a degree in composition at the Moscow Pedagogical State University. Urantögs was a 2002 winner of Moscow's 21st-Century Second International Contest. She toured with Buryat and Mongolian music group Namgar in Norway, China, and Malaysia. She sings and plays on the debut album of Namgar, "Hatar" (2002). She was teaching a theory and solfedgio at University of Culture in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia for some time and edited her father's major musicological book, released in 2007.
