Nyeri
Nyeri is a town situated in the Central Highlands of Kenya. It is the county headquarters of Nyeri County and was the central administrative headquarters of the country's former Central Province (Kenya), Central Province. The town is situated about 150 km north of Kenya's capital Nairobi, in the country's densely populated and fertile Central Highlands. The town lies between the eastern base of the Aberdare Range, Aberdare ''(Nyandarua)'' Range, which forms part of the eastern end of the Great Rift Valley, Kenya, Great Rift Valley, and the western slopes of Mount Kenya. Nyeri County is a county located in the central region of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Nyeri. It had a population of 759,164 according to the 2019 census and an area of 2361 km2. Mutahi Kahiga was governor . Previous governors include Nderitu Gachagua, who died while receiving treatment in London, Wamathai Samuel Githaiga, and Wahome Gakuru, who died in a road accident at Kabati near Kenol heading towards Thika Super Highway. Central Province (Kenya)
The Central Province (, ) was a region in central Kenya until 2013, when Kenya's provinces were replaced by a system of counties. It covered an area of and was located to the north of Nairobi and west of Mount Kenya (''see maps''). The province had 4,383,743 inhabitants according to the 2009 census. The provincial headquarters was Nyeri. Central Province was the ancestral home of the Gikuyu people. Climate The climate of Central Province is generally cooler than that of the rest of Kenya, due to the region's higher altitude. Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (or DeKUT) is a public university in Nyeri, Kenya. It is one of 22 public universities in Kenya, having been a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology since the year 2007 until it was chartered to become a fully fledged public university on 14 December 2012. It was the first university in Kenya to be chartered under the new universities act of 2012 and the eighth public university to be established in the country. Kenya has five incorporated cities including the capital and largest city, Nairobi, the second-largest city of Mombasa, and the third-largest city, Kisumu. Lieutenant-General Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell, ( ; 22 February 1857 – 8 January 1941) was a British Army officer, writer, founder of The Boy Scouts Association and its first Chief Scout, and founder, with his sister Agnes, of The Girl Guides Association. Outspan Hotel
The Outspan Hotel, located in Nyeri, Kenya, was developed from an old farm by Eric Sherbrooke Walker during the 1920s. In 1928, Walker opened the Outspan Hotel on of Crown Land in Nyeri, overlooking the gorge of a river in the Aberdare Range. The hotel now features 45 rooms on of landscaped gardens. Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen, CBE, DSO (3 March 1878 – 17 June 1967) was a British soldier, intelligence officer, and ornithologist. He had a decorated military career spanning Africa and the Middle East. He was credited with creating and executing the Haversack Ruse in October 1917, during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of the First World War, but his participation in this matter has since been refuted. Aberdare Range
The Aberdare Range (formerly the Sattima Range, Kikuyu: ''Nyandarua'') is a long mountain range of upland, north of Kenya's capital Nairobi with an average elevation of . It straddles the counties of Nyandarua, Nyeri, Murang'a, Kiambu and Laikipia. The mountain range is in west central Kenya, northeast of Naivasha and Gilgil and lies just south of the Equator. The mountain range is called Nyandarua among the Agikuyu people in whose territory this forest and mountain range is located. The name ''Nyandarua'' comes from the Kikuyu word ''rwandarua'' meaning a drying hide, due to the distinctive fold of its silhouette.
