Nuestra Belleza México 2002, the 9th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the World Trade Center Veracruz, World Trade Center of Boca del Río, Veracruz, Boca del Río, Veracruz, Mexico on September 6, 2002. Thirty-three contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Marisol González from Coahuila, who later competed in Miss Universe 2003 in Panama. González was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Ericka Cruz and Christiane Martel Miss Universe 1953. She is the first and only Coahuilense to win this title. The Nuestra Belleza Mundo México title was won by Blanca Zumárraga from Puebla, who later competed in Miss World 2002 in United Kingdom. Zumárraga was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza Mundo México titleholder Tatiana Rodríguez. She was the first Poblana to win this title. Miss Universe 2003 was the 52nd Miss Universe pageant, held at the Figali Convention Center in Panama City, Panama on 3 June 2003. The winner, Amelia Vega of the Dominican Republic was crowned by Justine Pasek of Panama as Miss Universe 2003. It was the country's first victory in the pageant's history. Miss World 2003 was the 53rd edition of the Miss World pageant, held at the Crown of Beauty Theatre in Sanya, China, on December 6, 2003. It was the first time that the Miss World pageant held in China. Azra Akın of Turkey crowned Rosanna Davison of Ireland as her successor at the end of the event. It is Ireland's first victory in the history of the pageant. 106 contestants competed in this year's pageant, surpassing the previous record of 95 contestants in 2000. Miss World 2002
Miss World 2002, the 52nd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 7 December 2002 at the Alexandra Palace in London, United Kingdom. It was initially intended to be staged in Abuja, but due to religious riots in the nearby city of Kaduna (city), Kaduna (the "Miss World riots") the pageant was relocated to London. A total of 110 contestants from all over the world were initially invited to compete for the crown, but several contestants boycotted the pageant and others dropping out in protest for the death sentence by stoning determined by an Islamic Sharia court to Amina Lawal, a Nigerian woman accused of adultery, making a total of 88 girls competing for the crown. Miss Universe 1953 was the 2nd Miss Universe pageant, held at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California, United States of America on 17 July 1953.
