Nottingham Rugby Club is a rugby union club based in Nottingham, England. The club's first team currently plays in the RFU Championship, the second tier of English Rugby. The first XV are nicknamed The Archers, in reference to the famous Robin Hood. Now situated in the Lady Bay, Nottinghamshire, Lady Bay area of Nottingham, the club was formerly based at Meadow Lane, the home ground of Notts County F.C. They previously played at Ireland Avenue in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, Beeston until the end of the 2005–06 season. History The club was established circa 1877 by Alexander Birkin after returning from Rugby School, where he was introduced to the sport. The Birkin family later purchased the land at Ireland Avenue that would be the home of the club until 2006. The Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire & Derbyshire Rugby Football Union (NLD RFU) is a Sport governing body, governing body for rugby union in part of The Midlands, England. 2024–25 RFU Championship
The 2024–25 RFU Championship was the sixteenth season of the RFU Championship, the professional second tier of rugby union in England. It featured twelve English teams. Ealing Trailfinders were the reigning champions, having been refused promotion to the Premiership due to failing to meet minimum standards. Ealing Trailfinders finished as champions on 17 May following a decisive victory away to Caldy, giving them the title with two games still left to play. Despite winning their second RFU Championship title in a row (and third overall) the minimum standards ruling meant that once again they were ineligible for promotion. Cambridge finished bottom but due to the Championship increasing from 12 to 14 teams for the following season, there was no relegation. Selkirk Sevens
Selkirk Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Selkirk RFC, in Selkirk, Scotland. This was one of a group of Sevens tournaments instated after the First World War extending the original Borders Spring Circuit. The Selkirk Sevens began in 1919. The Selkirk Sevens is part of the Kings of the Sevens championship run by the Border League. 2025's Selkirk Sevens will be played on 10 May 2025. Sports Day The Selkirk Sevens tournament began as a Sports Day in 1919. Cup Following a sponsorship deal the Selkirk Sevens trophy is now known as the Edinburgh Medics of 81 Cup. The Middlesex Sevens was a Rugby Sevens tournament held annually at Twickenham stadium in London, England until 2011. It was first held in 1926, and started by Dr J.A. Russell-Cargill, a London-based Scot.Bath, ''Scotland Rugby Miscellany'', p82 The event was held at the end of the rugby union season in May every year for 75 years, but moved to August in 2001 due to lack of available stadium dates and players in May. The Middlesex Sevens tournament was last played in 2011, as the new Premiership Rugby 7s Series caused many of the top clubs that previously took part to pull out. This tournament was a charitable event, officially called the Middlesex Charity Sevens, with the beneficiaries being Wooden Spoon and the RFU Injured Players Fund. The Midland Counties Football Union was a governing body for rugby union in The Midlands, England from 1879 to 1920. History The organisation was formed as the Midland Counties Football Club and covered the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. The Premiership Rugby Cup is an English rugby union knockout cup competition for teams in Premiership Rugby and from the 2023–24 season the RFU Championship. It was created in 2018 to replace the Anglo-Welsh Cup after the withdrawal of the Welsh regions. History The Premiership Rugby Cup was created to replace the Anglo-Welsh Cup which had been running since 2005 when the Welsh regions joined the then English-only Powergen Cup.
