Alexander McKeachie Notman (born 10 December 1979) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career Born in Dalkeith, Notman began his career with Manchester United. He only made one substitute appearance for their first team against Tottenham Hotspur, and spent loan spells at Aberdeen and Sheffield United. He signed for Norwich City in November 2000 for a fee of £250,000. Notman retired from professional football in November 2003 due to injury. He signed for non-league King's Lynn in January 2004; he left after one appearance before re-signing for the club in August 2006. John Notman
John Notman (July 22, 1803 March 3, 1865) was a Scottish-born American architect and landscape architect based in Philadelphia. He designed buildings, cemeteries, churches and country estates in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States and helped popularize Italianate architecture in the United States. Early life and education Notman was born on July 22, 1810, in The Canongate district of Edinburgh, Scotland, to David and Mary (Christie) Notman. He spent much of his childhood in Lasswade, south of Edinburgh. He was educated at the Watt Institution in Edinburgh. He apprenticed for four years as a carpenter and built country houses in the Scottish highlands and Northern Ireland. William Notman (8 March 1826 – 25 November 1891) was a Scottish-Canadian photographer and businessman. The Notman House in Montreal was his home from 1876 until his death in 1891, and it has since been named after him. Notman was the first photographer in Canada to achieve international recognition. Biography Notman was born in Paisley, Scotland, in 1826. He received a decent education, which included lessons in painting and drawing. He moved to Montreal in the summer of 1856. An amateur photographer, he quickly established a flourishing professional photography studio on Bleury Street, a location close to Montreal's central commercial district, where he attracted clients who were members of the political and business elite. His first important commission was the documentation of the construction of the Victoria Bridge across the St. Lawrence River. William Notman (politician)
William Notman Q.C. (February 24, 1805 – September 19, 1865) was a lawyer and political figure in Canada West. Notman was born in Scotland in 1805, studied at the University of Glasgow and came to Dundas in Upper Canada in 1821. He studied law with George Ridout in Toronto, was called to the bar in 1827 and set up practice in Ancaster. His first wife and family died of diphtheria in 1832. In 1835, he moved to Dundas, where he married Janet Wilson. William Notman (architect)
William Notman (1809-1893) was a 19th-century Scottish architect. Early work assisting Playfair focussed on country houses, but his later independent work was more commercial in nature. Life He was born in the small village of Kirkurd in Peebleshire in February 1809, the son of John Notman a clerk of works, and his wife Margaret Kemp. The family moved to Northfield Cottage on Newhaven Road west of Leith in the 1820s where he was articled to William Henry Playfair to train as an architect in 1823. His cousin, John Notman joined him a few years later (and emigrated to America). All Notman’s works until 1842 are under the umbrella of Playfair’s office. Around 1850 he set up his own practice in Davidsons Mains on the western edge of Edinburgh. He died in Northfield CottageEdinburgh and Leith Post Office Directory 1892-3 on 15 June 1893 and is buried in Rosebank Cemetery in north Edinburgh. Notman House () is a gathering place for tech startups, entrepreneurs and founders situated in a historic building at 51 Sherbrooke Street West in Montreal, Quebec, near the Golden Square Mile. Completed in 1845 for William Collis Meredith, Sir William Collis Meredith, the house takes its name from the celebrated photographer, William Notman, who lived there with his family from 1876 until his death in 1891. The house is the only surviving residence of its era on Sherbrooke Street, and one of Quebec's few residential examples of Greek Revival architecture. Anthrax (American Band)
Anthrax is an American thrash metal band from New York City, formed in 1981 by rhythm guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Lilker. The group is considered one of the leaders of the thrash metal scene from the 1980s and is part of the "Big Four" of the genre, along with Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. They were also one of the first thrash metal bands (along with Overkill (band), Overkill and Nuclear Assault) to emerge from the East Coast.
