North–South Connection (Brussels)
The North–South connection (; ) is a railway link of national and international importance through central Brussels, Belgium, that connects the major railway stations in the city. It is line 0 (zero) of the Belgian rail network. With 1200 trains a day, it is the busiest railway line in Belgium and the busiest railway tunnel in the world. It has six tracks and is used for passenger trains, or rarely for a maintenance train when work is to be done on the railway infrastructure inside the North–South connection itself, but not for freight trains. It is partially underground (around Brussels-Central railway station) and partially raised above street level. Brussels-North railway station (; ) is one of the three major railway stations in Brussels, Belgium; the other two are Brussels Central Station, Brussels-Central and Brussels-South railway station, Brussels-South. Every regular domestic and international train (except Eurostar) passing there has a planned stop. The station has 200,000 passengers per week, mainly commuters, making it one of the List of railway stations in Belgium, busiest in Belgium. It is operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB/NMBS). Thalys
Thalys (French: ) was a brand name used for high-speed rail, high-speed train services between Paris Gare du Nord and both Amsterdam Centraal and German cities in the Rhein-Ruhr, including Aachen, Köln Hauptbahnhof, Cologne, Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, Düsseldorf, Duisburg Hauptbahnhof, Duisburg, Essen Hauptbahnhof, Essen and Dortmund Hauptbahnhof, Dortmund, both via Brussels-South railway station, Brussels-South. Thalys was created out of a political ambition formalised in October 1987 to establish a network of international high-speed railway services between the cities of Paris, Brussels, Cologne and Amsterdam. Halle, Belgium
Halle (; , ) is a Belgian city and municipality in the Halle-Vilvoorde district (''arrondissement'') of the province of Flemish Brabant. It is located on the Brussels–Charleroi Canal and on the Flemish side of the language border that separates Flanders and Wallonia. Belgian Railway Line 26
The Belgian railway line 26 is a railway line in Belgium connecting Brussels to Halle, Belgium, Halle. It opened on 19 July 1926 between Schaerbeek railway station, Schaerbeek and Watermael railway stations. The line was completed on 3 January 1930. It was built to bypass Brussels before the 1952 North–South connection existed. Today, all passenger trains using the line travel from Vilvoorde on a branch line called 26/1 and not from Schaerbeek, to various destinations south of Brussels. The line carries (parts of) several services of the Brussels Regional Express Network, GEN/RER: S4, S5, S7, S9. Some of these use the Schuman-Josaphat tunnel, which branches off just south of Meiser station. Nivelles Railway Station
Nivelles railway station (; ) is a railway station in Nivelles, Walloon Brabant, Belgium. The station opened on 1 June 1874 and is located on railway line 124. The train services are operated by the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB/NMBS). The station used to be known as Nivelles-East railway station (; ) when there was also a Nivelles-North railway station on the former line 141. The railway line between Nivelles–Waterloo–Linkebeek (south of Brussels) is currently (2015) being enlarged to allow a higher frequency of local and intercity trains. HSL-Zuid
The HSL-Zuid (, ), is a 125 kilometre-long (78 mile) High-speed rail in the Netherlands, Dutch high-speed rail line running between the Amsterdam metropolitan area and the Belgium–Netherlands border, Belgian border, with a branch to Breda, North Brabant. Together with the Belgian HSL 4 it forms the Schiphol–Antwerp high-speed railway.
