Northwestern League (1905–1917)
The Northwestern League was a professional sports league in minor league baseball that operated from 1905 to 1917. It was represented by teams based in British Columbia, Montana, Oregon and Washington. The league became the Pacific Coast International League in 1918. Teams 21 teams played in the league throughout its existence. Ballard Pippins
The Ballard Pippins were a minor league baseball team briefly based in Ballard, Washington. In 1914, the Pippins played a partial season as members of the Class B level Northwestern League in their only season of play. Ballard hosted minor league home games at Dugdale Field. History Minor league baseball began in the Ballard, Washington neighborhood of Seattle, Washington in 1914. The Ballard "Pippins" became members of the six–team Class B level Northwestern League when the Portland franchise relocated during the season. The Seattle Giants, Spokane Indians, Tacoma Tigers, Vancouver Beavers and Victoria Bees joined Ballard in 1914 league play after the move. During the 1914 season, Portland Colts owner William W. The Seattle Giants were a minor league baseball team that played in various leagues from 1910 to 1920. Based in Seattle, Washington, United States and owned by Dan Dugdale, they played in the Northwestern League from 1910 to 1917, the Pacific Coast International League in 1918 and 1920, and the Northwest International League in 1919. The Seattle Turks were a minor league baseball team based in Seattle, WA who played a single season (1909) in the Northwestern League. In their only year of existence, the team won a Northwestern League pennant with a record of 109-58. Portland Colts
The Portland Colts were a minor league baseball team based in Portland, Oregon for five seasons (1909, 1911–14) in the Class B Northwestern League. The Colts served as an unofficial farm team for the Portland Beavers and the Cleveland Indians. The Colts and Beavers shared Vaughn Street Park. The franchise was established in 1909 by William Wallace McCredie, who was the owner of the Beavers and a sitting Congressman. The team was disbanded after their first season, with McCredie selling several players to the Beavers. McCredie originally said he did not want to run two teams, but changed his mind in 1911 when he placed a bid for a Northwestern League franchise. The league penalized McCredie with a US$1,000 re-entry fee and adopted new rules when it came to selling players from your team. Vancouver Beavers
The Vancouver Beavers were a Class-B minor league baseball team based in Vancouver, British Columbia that played on and off from 1908 to 1922. The team played in the Northwestern League, Pacific Coast International League, Northwest International League and Western International League. In early years, their games were staged at Recreation Park. From 1913 on, they played their home games at Athletic Park. In 1910, Bob Brown bought a 60% share of the team for $500. He moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to take on the role of the team's playing manager. While Brown owned the Beavers, manager Kitty Brashier guided the team to Northwestern League championships in 1911; the Beavers were also champions in 1913 and 1914, while the team was second in the league in 1912.
