Fort Hays Tech , Northwest (formerly Northwest Kansas Technical College) is a public technical college in Goodland, Kansas, United States. The college offers 19 different programs ranging from diesel technology to medical assistant. The college also offers certificates and associate degrees. History The college began in 1964 as the Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School. In 2001, the name was changed to Northwest Kansas Technical College. In 2024, the name was updated to Fort Hays Tech , Northwest Tigers. Athletics Fort Hays Tech , Northwest is the only technical school in Kansas with an athletic program. Goodland, Kansas
Goodland is a city in and the county seat of Sherman County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 4,465. It was named after Goodland, Indiana. Goodland is home to Northwest Kansas Technical College. History One of the earliest pieces of recorded history relating to Goodland concerns the Kidder Massacre. On July 2, 1867, a detachment of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment was massacred; second lieutenant Lyman S. Kidder in command of the party, a sergeant, a corporal, eight privates and an Indian guide lost their lives. They were carrying dispatches for Lieutenant Colonel George Custer. Later, Custer found evidence of a running battle along Beaver Creek, which led to a ravine where the remains were found. They had been killed by Cheyenne and/or Sioux Indians. The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) is a college athletic conference that is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). As of 2007, the KJCCC was home to more than 3,000 student-athletes in the 19 men's and women's sports. The conference's name comes from " Jayhawk" which is a term used for people born in the state of Kansas, where all of the conference's schools are located.
