Northern Gas Pipeline
The Northern Gas Pipeline is a gas transmission pipeline in Australia. It runs from Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory to Mount Isa in Queensland. It took 18 months to construct, and was completed in December 2018. The Northern Territory already had production facilities offshore, feeding to processing near Darwin, and the bi-directional Amadeus Gas Pipeline running north–south through the Territory connecting to the Amadeus Basin southwest of Alice Springs. North East Gas Interconnector The Northern Gas Pipeline addresses a requirement known as the North East Gas Interconnector (NEGI) before it was built. The purpose of the NEGI is to provide a way to transport gas from Northern Territory production to eastern Australian consumers. Amadeus Basin
The Amadeus Basin is a large (~170,000 km2) intracratonic sedimentary basin in central Australia, lying mostly within the southern Northern Territory, but extending into the state of Western Australia. Origins The Amadeus Basin is named after Lake Amadeus which lies within the basin. Local deposition of up to 14 km of marine and non-marine sedimentary rocks took place from the Neoproterozoic to the late Paleozoic. Along with other nearby sedimentary basins of similar age ( Officer Basin, Georgina Basin, Ngalia Basin), the Amadeus Basin is believed to have once been part of the hypothetical Centralian Superbasin. Amadeus Gas Pipeline
The Amadeus Gas Pipeline is a bi-directional natural gas pipeline running north–south through the Northern Territory of Australia. Its southern extent is the Amadeus Basin gas fields west of Alice Springs. The Amadeus pipeline is owned and operated by APA Group, and regulated by the Australian Energy Regulator. The Amadeus Gas Pipeline was originally built to transport gas north from the Palm Valley and Mereenie gas fields in the Amadeus Basin to fuel electricity generation in Katherine and Darwin. Since 2008, it has also carried gas sourced from the Blacktip gas field in the Bonaparte Basin which is delivered from Wadeye by the Bonaparte Gas Pipeline to the Amadeus pipeline at Ban Ban Springs near Burrundie.
