North Plains, Oregon
North Plains is a city in Washington County, Oregon, Washington County, Oregon, United States, off U.S. Route 26 in Oregon, U.S. 26 on the northwest Rural-urban fringe, outskirts of the Portland metropolitan area. The population was 3,441 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History Pioneer settlers first arrived in the North Plains area in the 1840s. The area to be known as the city of North Plains was platted in September 1910 by the Ruth Trust Company of Portland. They purchased area tracts after James J. Hill planned to extend United Railways (Oregon), United Railways there. On June 25, 1963, North Plains voted 90 to 56 to incorporate as a city; at the time the population was around 500. Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club is just outside town. United Railways (Oregon)
United Railways was a railroad in Oregon. Begun as an electric interurban railway in 1911, passenger service was never effective and the road became a freight link to the Tualatin Valley. The company was dissolved in 1944, but the railroad line remains active. History Initially built as an interurban electric railway, the main line opened on April 16, 1911 between Portland and Wilkesboro. Unusual for interurbans, the line featured a long tunnel beneath Cornelius Pass. The company had a close working relationship with the Oregon Electric Railway. As such, when the Oregon Electric changed their electrification voltage in 1912, United Railways implemented the same system. Service south of Linnton was suspended in 1915 amid a fare dispute, necessitating passengers wishing to continue to Portland to transfer to mainline Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway trains. The Köppen climate classification divides Earth climates into five main climate groups, with each group being divided based on patterns of seasonal precipitation and temperature. LIV Golf ( ) is a professional men's golf tour. The name "LIV" refers to the Roman numerals for 54, the number of holes played at LIV events. Faerieworlds
Faerieworlds was an annual music and arts festival currently held annually in the U.S. state of Oregon. The festival's primary theme was the "realm of the faerie". As of 2015, the festival moved to Hornings Hideout near Portland after many recent festivals had been held at Mount Pisgah in the Howard Buford Park Recreation Area southeast of Eugene, Oregon. The 2015-2019 festivals were held at Horning's Hideout and 2020 saw a virtual event take place on the live stream platform PORTL. The 2021 date was cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic, and in 2022 resumed, taking place at the Cuthbert Theater in Eugene, Oregon. In 2023, all future events were cancelled and their LLC was legally dissolved due to under-performance and financial issues as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway (SP&S; ) was a railroad in the northwest United States. Incorporated in 1905, it was a joint venture by the Great Northern Railway and the Northern Pacific Railway to build a railroad along the north bank of the Columbia River. North Bank Depot Buildings
The North Bank Depot Buildings, in central Portland, Oregon, United States, are a pair of buildings formerly used as a freight warehouse and passenger terminal for the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway (SP&S). Formed in 1905, the SP&S was commonly known as the North Bank Road (or North Bank road, "road" being short for railroad) during the period in which these buildings were in use. The Portland buildings' passenger facilities were also used by the Oregon Electric Railway after that railway was acquired by the SP&S. Located in what is now known as the Pearl District, the buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. Vernonia is a city in Columbia County, Oregon, United States.
