North Branch, New Jersey
North Branch is an unincorporated community and hamlet located mostly within Branchburg Township, in Somerset County, New Jersey, United States. A portion of North Branch is located in Bridgewater Township. The hamlet of North Branch, located on both sides of the North Branch of the Raritan River, brings the ambiance of a small village and charm to the area. The North Branch Volunteer Fire Company provides fire protection to western Bridgewater Township and northern Branchburg Township. The company's 30 volunteers cover almost and 15,000 residents. Education The Branchburg portion of the area is home to the Midland School, a school serving students with developmental disabilities from a number of public school districts. Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) is a public community college in North Branch, New Jersey. RVCC offers Associate degree programs leading to an Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), Associate of Fine Art (A.F.A), or an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), as well as certificate programs and continuing education courses. The college was founded in late 1965 as Somerset County College and opened to its first class of students in the fall of 1968. North Branch Historic District (New Jersey)
The North Branch Historic District is a historic district located in North Branch, Somerset County, New Jersey. It is on the western side of the North Branch of the Raritan River in Branchburg Township. The district reflects the 18th and 19th century architecture of this agricultural community, once built around a mill on the North Branch. A main feature is the stone house of Jacob Ten Eyck, with its Georgian influences. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 2012, for its significance in architecture and community development. Jacob Ten Eyck house In 1700, Matthias Ten Eyck (1658–1741), a farmer from Old Hurley, Ulster County, New York and son of Coenradt Ten Eyck, purchased 400 acres north of North Branch from John Johnston, and another 100 acres in 1702. The North Branch Reformed Church is a historic church located on the eastern side of the North Branch of the Raritan River in North Branch, New Jersey at 203 New Jersey Route 28. It was formed by expansion from the Readington Reformed Church. The church was organized on September 10, 1825. The first church was built in 1826 and later rebuilt in 1874. The North Branch Reformed Church Cemetery is located nearby on the western side of the North Branch along Vanderveer Avenue. Robert Cox (Michigan Politician)
Robert Cox (April 30, 1813June 1890) was a Michigan politician. Early life Cox was born on April 30, 1813, in the North Branch section of Branchburg, New Jersey. When Cox was young, he became a resident of New York. In 1829, Cox moved to Lenawee County, Michigan. In 1834 or 1835, he moved onto a farm in Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. Cox set out one of the first orchards in Wheatland Township, along with Harvey McGee and Lyman Pease. When Hunter Smith put a press into operation in Pittsford, Michigan, Cox and Zebulon Williams Sr., who also made an early orchard in the township, went and made their apples into cider there. Career In 1845, Cox served as a justice of the peace. Before 1854, Cox was a member of the Whig Party. Afterwards, Cox was a Republican. New Jersey Senate
The New Jersey Senate was established as the upper house of the New Jersey Legislature by the Constitution of 1844, replacing the Legislative Council. There are 40 legislative districts, representing districts with an average population of 232,225 (2020 figure).
