North American Premier Basketball
The Basketball League (TBL), formerly North America Premier Basketball (NAPB), is a professional basketball league. The league began operating in North America in 2018 with eight teams, and has since expanded. TBL's regular season runs from February through May, and their teams engage in interleague play with franchises of the Basketball Super League (BSL). History In July 2017, Dave Magley and Severko Hrywnak announced the formation of North America Premier Basketball (NAPB). Magley previously served as commissioner for the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC), and Hrywnak was co-founder of the Premier Basketball League (PBL). The league launched its inaugural 2018 season with eight teams: the Albany Patroons, Kansas City Tornados, Kentucky Thoroughbreds, Nevada Desert Dogs, Ohio Cardinals, Rochester Razorsharks, Vancouver Knights, and the Yakima SunKings. 2018 NAPB Season
The 2018 NAPB season was the inaugural season for the North American Premier Basketball. For 2018, the league consists of eight teams: the Albany Patroons, Kansas City Tornados, Kentucky Thoroughbreds, Nevada Desert Dogs, Ohio Cardinals, Rochester Razorsharks, Vancouver Knights, and Yakima SunKings. The Ohio Cardinals were replaced after 23 games by the Ohio Bootleggers, a semi-professional team in the North American Basketball League that also apparently had taken over operations of the Vancouver Knights sometime during the season. The Knights also had become a travel team at that point and was transferred to a new ownership group that was never identified. The season ended with the SunKings defeating the Patroons two-games-to-none in the best-of-three finals to win the inaugural NAPB championship. Paul Mokeski
Paul Keen Mokeski (born January 3, 1957) is an American former basketball player and coach. Standing 7 ft 0 in, he played the center position. He played for five NBA teams, including six seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. Mokeski's last coaching position was as head coach of the Nevada Desert Dogs in North American Premier Basketball in 2018. Early career Mokeski played at Crespi Carmelite High School in Los Angeles, California. He went on to play two seasons at the University of Kansas, where he accumulated 680 rebounds, placing him 15th in school history. Professional career On the Bucks, Mokeski played a role as a key bench player on several deep playoff runs. During the 1984 NBA Playoffs, he averaged career postseason bests of 6.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in only 20 minutes a game. 2023 TBL Season
The 2023 TBL season is the sixth season of The Basketball League (TBL). The league expanded from 44 teams in the 2022 season to over 50 in 2023. The National Basketball League of Canada once again will partner with The Basketball League in joint league expansion. League changes The Connecticut Cobras relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina and became the Charlotte Purple Jackets. On April 11, 2022, the league announced the return of professional basketball to Seattle. Shreveport Mavericks
The Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks were a professional basketball team based in Shreveport, Louisiana that played in The Basketball League (TBL). The Mavericks folded Thursday, May 23, 2024. History Rio Grande Valley/Southeast Texas (2006–2011) Originally known as the Rio Grande Valley Silverados, the team was originally a member of the former Continental Basketball Association. Owned by McAllen businessmen Art Gonzalez and Kevin Mitchell, the Silverados were based out of McAllen, Texas and played their home games at the McAllen Convention Center. In the team's initial ABA season of 2008–09, the team played in Beaumont. The Southeast Texas Mustangs proved to be a force to be reckoned with winning 27 of their first 28 games, many by margins of 50 points or more. The 2022 The Basketball League All-Star Game was held at Liverpool High School on April 16, 2022. Team NBLC was coached by Doug Plumb of the London Lightning, while team TBL was coached by Patrick Beilein of the Syracuse Stallions and Will Brown of the Albany Patroons. 2022 TBL Season
The 2022 TBL season is the fifth season of The Basketball League (TBL). The league expanded from 29 teams in the 2021 season to 44. For the 2022 season, the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) announced that they had agreed to inter-league series play with several teams from The Basketball League. The games played between the teams from the two leagues are included in their respective regular season standings for each league. Buyout Clause
A buyout clause or release clause refers to a clause in an employment contract. It allows the employee to terminate the contract unilaterally upon payment of a specified (usually substantial) fee to the employer. The fee may be paid by the employee directly, but is more usually paid by a prospective employer who wishes to acquire the employee's services. It is most commonly used in reference to sports teams, where a transfer fee is usually paid for a player under contract; however, the current owning club is not obliged to sell their player, and if an agreement on a suitable fee cannot be reached, the buying club can instead resort to paying the player's buyout fee – should their contract have such a clause – which the owning club cannot block. 2021 TBL Season
The 2021 TBL season is the fourth season of The Basketball League (TBL). The season began in April and the teams are each scheduled to play 24 games. The league announced several new teams for the 2021 season, expanding from 12 teams in the COVID-19 pandemic curtailed 2020 season to 36 teams . Several of the added teams came from the semi-professional American Basketball Association such as the California Sea-Kings, San Diego Guardians, and Syracuse Stallions.
