Noarlunga Centre Railway Station
Noarlunga Centre railway station is a railway station on the Seaford line, and for almost 36 years (April 2, 1978 - February 23, 2014) it was the terminus of the line. Situated in the southern Adelaide suburb of Noarlunga Centre, it is 30.2 kilometres from Adelaide station. The station has a bus interchange directly alongside and is adjacent to a large commuter park & ride facility. History Prior to the railway line being extended in the mid-1970s, most local trains from Adelaide terminated at either Marino or Hallett Cove, a station on the closed line to Willunga. Noarlunga Centre opened on 2 April 1978 as the terminus of the line when it was extended from Christie Downs. It was built as an island platform between the two rail tracks and the ticket office on the bridge above. Noarlunga Centre
Noarlunga Centre is a suburb in the City of Onkaparinga in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia. The suburb is mostly commercial, being dominated by the Centro Colonnades shopping centre and the small 'Inspire Noarlunga' estate to the east of Goldsmith Road. The suburb is bordered by Beach Road to the north, Dyson Road to the west Goldsmith Road to the south and the Southern Expressway to the east. Burgess Drive, Seaman Road and David Witton Drive are the main thoroughfares inside the boundaries of the suburb. The name Noarlunga is an English adaptation of the native Kaurna word Nurlongga, meaning 'at the curvature', referring to the horseshoe bend near the mouth of the Onkaparinga River. Sharing the name Noarlunga are the two adjacent seaside suburbs Port Noarlunga and Port Noarlunga South and the historic township of Old Noarlunga that is located on the Onkaparinga River. Christie Downs Railway Station
Christie Downs railway station is located on the Seaford line. Situated in the southern Adelaide suburb of Christie Downs, it is 28.9 kilometres from Adelaide station. History The original Christie Downs station opened on 25 January 1976 when the line was extended from Hallett Cove Beach station. At the same time a new timetable was introduced which had trains stopping at all stations to Brighton, backed up by semi-fast trains that continued to Christie Downs. It was approximately 29.7 kilometres from Adelaide station and consisted of a platform adjacent to what is now the Adelaide bound track. Salisbury Railway Station, Adelaide
Salisbury railway station is a railway station and bus interchange in the northern Adelaide suburb of Salisbury. It is on the Gawler line, from Adelaide station. Adjoining it is a large park & ride carpark, making it one of the busiest stations on the Adelaide suburban rail system. History The railway line through Salisbury opened in June 1857, initially running north as far as Smithfield. The line was extended to Gawler and Kapunda in 1860 and Burra by 1870 to exploit the copper mining boom in those areas. The line through Salisbury became the South Australian Railways' broad gauge Main North line, used by a variety of local and country trains, and also by passengers and freight travelling long distances to Broken Hill, Alice Springs and Kalgoorlie, (although all these interstate journeys involved changing trains at break-of-gauge stations). 891 ABC Adelaide
ABC Radio Adelaide (call sign: 5AN) is the ABC Local Radio station for Adelaide. It is broadcast at 891 kHz on the AM band. It is also available on Digital TV in Adelaide. History 5AN started transmitting on 15 October 1937 with equipment located in the central telephone exchange, and a radio mast located in Post Office Place. The station transmitter moved to Brooklyn Park, already the site of 5CL's transmitter, on 4 May 1944. The radio mast was moved from the east side of the building to the south side in 1952 to make way for a road to the projected new airport. The proximity of the transmitter site to the airport was inconvenient for both operations, so a new transmitter site was built in open fields at Pimpala, at the corner of Sherriffs and Hillier Roads, Reynella, and was opened on 20 September 1961 by the Postmaster-General C W Davidson.
