Niu () is a Chinese family name. It was listed 310th on the Song dynasty list of the ''Hundred Family Surnames.'' It means "ox". According to a 2013 study it was the 103rd most common surname at the time, shared by 2.20 million people, or 0.150% of the total population, with the province with the most being Henan. The Manchus (; ) are a Tungusic peoples, Tungusic East Asian people, East Asian ethnic group native to Manchuria in Northeast Asia. They are an officially recognized Ethnic minorities in China, ethnic minority in China and the people from whom Manchuria derives its name. Niu Lizhi (born 1966) is a Chinese surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive cryosurgery for cancers. In 1996, he graduated from the Fourth Military Medical University with a doctoral degree in Thoracic & Cardiac Surgery. Niu Chiao
Niu Chiao was an obscure Chinese writer and poet of the 9th century CE. Reputedly, he wrote more than 30 books on a variety of topics. Some of his writings are collected in "Ling Kuai Lu" (about A.D. 879). Zhisheng Niu () is a professor in the electrical engineering department of Tsinghua University. He became a Fellow of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers in 2007. Yuh-Line Niou (; zh, t=牛毓琳, p=Niú Yùlín; born July 15, 1983) is an American politician who served as a member of the New York State Assembly for the 65th district. The Lower Manhattan district, which is heavily Democratic and over 40% Asian American, includes Chinatown, the Financial District, Battery Park City, and the Lower East Side.
