Nina Carberry
Nina Carberry (born 21 July 1984) is an Irish Fine Gael politician who has been a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Midlands–North-West since the 2024 European Parliament election. She is a former champion amateur National Hunt jockey with seven Cheltenham Festival wins to her name. Background Carberry was born into a racing family in County Meath, the daughter of jockey and trainer Tommy Carberry. Two older brothers, Philip and Paul, are also former jockeys, while her maternal uncle Arthur Moore is a trainer. She attended Loreto Secondary School, Navan, where she excelled in athletics and was on an Irish junior basketball squad. After leaving school, she completed a year-long course in holistic health at Plunket College of Further Education in Dublin. Irish Grand National
The Irish Grand National is a National Hunt steeplechase in Ireland which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run at Fairyhouse over a distance of about 3 miles and 5 furlongs (5,834 metres), and during its running there are twenty-four fences to be jumped. It is a handicap race, and it is scheduled to take place each year on Easter Monday. It is the Irish equivalent of the Grand National, and it is held during Fairyhouse's Easter Festival meeting. The St James's Place Festival Hunters' Chase is a National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain for amateur riders which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles and 2½ furlongs (3 miles 2 furlongs and 70 yards, or 5,294 metres), and during its running there are twenty-two fences to be jumped. Keith Donoghue
Keith Donoghue (born 15 September 1990) is an Irish jockey who competes in National Hunt racing. He has had multiple successes at Grade level and holds the record of five wins in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. After a long association with trainer Gordon Elliott, he decided to switch to riding freelance and has had notable victories for trainer Gavin Cromwell. The Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase is a National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged five years or older. It is run on the Cross-Country Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 3 miles and 5½ furlongs (3 miles 5 furlongs and 56 yards, or 5,885 metres), and during its running there are thirty-two obstacles to be cleared. It was originally run as a handicap race before being changed to a conditions race from the 2016 running, and it is scheduled to take place each year on the second day of the Cheltenham Festival in March. Punchestown Racecourse
Punchestown Racecourse is located in the parish of Eadestown, between the R410 and R411 Regional road (Ireland), regional roads near Naas, County Kildare, in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is known as the home of Irish Jumps Racing and plays host to the annual Punchestown Irish National Hunt Festival. The racecourse itself is right-handed with an undulating hurdle and steeplechase track. The hurdle course is one mile six furlongs in distance while the chase course is 2 miles. Punchestown Racecourse also has the only cross country banks course in Ireland. The Champion INH Flat Race is a Grade 1 National Hunt flat race in Ireland for amateur riders which is open to racing horses aged four to seven years. It is run at Punchestown over a distance of about 2 miles and ½ furlong (2 miles and 70 yards, or 3,283 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year during the Punchestown Festival in late April or early May. The event was sponsored by the bookmaker Paddy Power from 1999 to 2011, by betchronicle.com in 2012, Betdaq in 2013, attheraces from 2014 to 2016 and the Racing Post from 2017 to 2019. Curragh
The Curragh ( ; ) is a flat open plain in County Kildare, Ireland. This area is well known for horse breeding and training. The Irish National Stud is on the edge of Kildare town, beside the Japanese Gardens. Pollardstown Fen, the largest fen in Ireland, is of particular interest to botanists and ecologists because of the numerous bird species that nest and visit there. There are also many rare plants that grow there. It is composed of a sandy soil, formed after an esker deposited a sand load, and as a result has excellent drainage characteristics.
