Ngwe Saung Beach
Ngwesaung ( ), also spelt Ngwe Hsaung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. It is the namesake of Ngwesaung Subtownship, Pathein Township. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5 hours drive, with no traffic, away from the principal city of Yangon, and an airport is in the works. Buses leave at 6am & 9:30pm from in front of the Yangon Central Railway Station. Opened in March 2000, Ngwe Hsaung is newer than nearby and more popular Chaungtha, Pathein, Chaung Thar Beach, and is designed to attract people with larger holiday budgets. Tourism An unspoilt stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Hsaung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. Still Ngwe Hsaung has much to develop. Its choices for nightlife activities remain paltry, even by local standards. Pathein Township
Pathein Township is a township of Pathein District in the Ayeyawady Region of Myanmar. The administrative seat of the Township, District and Region is Pathein. The city of Pathein is the largest city in the Region and has historically been an important center of trade, including a deepwater port. Pathein Township is located in west-central Ayeyarwady Region and in the central part of Pathein District. The Township includes Ngwesaung Subtownship and Shwethaungyan Subtownship, both unofficial divisions used by the Township for statistical and administrative ease. Pathein
Pathein ( ; , ; , ), formerly called Bassein, is the largest city and the capital of the Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. It is located 190 km (120 mi) west of Yangon within Pathein Township on the bank of the Pathein River—a western branch of the Irrawaddy River. The city had a population of 172,923 in 2019. Although once a part of the Mon kingdoms, Pathein has few ethnic Mon residents today. The majority are of Bamar ethnicity with significant Karen, Indian, Rakhine and Chinese populations. Ngwesaung Subtownship
Ngwesaung Subtownship () is a subtownship of Pathein Township in Pathein District, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. The namesake of the subtownship is Ngwesaung, a popular beach resort with a white sand shore. The subtownship is relatively urban with 27.3% of the population in 2019 living within the town of Ngwesaung. In 2023, the subtownship saw significant population growth going from 38,020 people in 2022 to 41,592 people in 2023. Geography The subtownship is coastal, bordering the Bay of Bengal to its west. Chaungtha, Pathein
Chaungtha ( ) is a town and beach resort located in Shwethaungyan Subtownship, Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. Chaungtha Beach, as it is more commonly known, is about 5 hours' drive away from Yangon, and is a popular resort with Yangonites from October to April. As it is relatively more affordable than the nearby Ngwesaung and Ngapali beaches, Chaungtha is also more crowded and less clean than the two more expensive and better maintained beaches. Demographics and History Chaungtha has three urban wards with a total population of 3,077 people in 2014. The surrounding village tract had a population of 27,941 people. On 23 September 2016, Chaungtha was elevated to town status through Notification 1972/2016, encompassing the entire entire village tract and one other nearby village tract. Ngapali Beach
Ngapali Beach (Burmese language, Burmese: ငပလီကမ်းခြေ) is a coastal beach located in Rakhine State, western Myanmar, approximately 7 kilometers (4 miles) from the town of Thandwe. It is considered Myanmar’s premier beach destination. Ngapali Beach spans approximately 3 to 7 kilometers which stretches along the Bay of Bengal.
