New York State Route 215 (1940s–1970s)
New York State Route 215 (NY 215) was a north–south state highway located within the town of Hamlin, New York, Hamlin in Monroe County, New York, in the United States. It served as the primary highway to and from Hamlin Beach State Park prior to the construction of the Lake Ontario State Parkway. The southern terminus of the route was at an intersection with New York State Route 360, NY 360 east of the hamlet (New York), hamlet of Morton. Its northern terminus was at the park on the shore of Lake Ontario. The entirety of NY 215 was named Redman Road. NY 215 was assigned in the early 1940s to provide a signed connection between NY 360 and Hamlin Beach State Park. It ceased to exist in the early 1970s once it was severed from the Lake Ontario shoreline by a westward extension of the Lake Ontario State Parkway. General Drafting Corporation of Convent Station, New Jersey, founded by Otto G. Lindberg in 1909, was one of the "Big Three" road map publishers in the United States from 1930 to 1970, along with H.M. Gousha and Rand McNally.General Drafting Co., Inc. company brochure, 1982. Unlike the other two, General Drafting did not sell its maps to a variety of smaller customers, but was the exclusive publisher of maps for Standard Oil of New Jersey, later Esso and Exxon. Carlton is a town in Orleans County, New York, United States. The population was 2,994 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from Carleton, a shipbuilding district near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Lakeside Beach State Park
Lakeside Beach State Park is a state park located on the shore of Lake Ontario in the Town of Carlton, Orleans County, New York. Park description The park includes 274 campsites, as well as a campground store. Despite its name, swimming is not allowed at the park. The park installed the 18-hole "Shore Winds Disc Golf Course" in 2009, which starts near the back of the park and includes several holes playing along the Lake Ontario shoreline.
