New York Power Authority
The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is a public benefit corporation owned by the State of New York and is the largest state public power utility in the United States. It provides some of the lowest-cost electricity in the nation, operating 16 generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. Its main administrative offices are in White Plains, New York. NYPA uses no state tax dollars and incurs no state debt, financing its projects principally through the sale of bond (finance), bonds. The bonds are repaid and the projects operated using revenues from operations. Pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH), or pumped hydroelectric energy storage (PHES), is a type of hydroelectric energy storage used by electric power systems for load balancing (electrical power), load balancing. Crescent is a hamlet in the town of Halfmoon, New York, United States. It lies on the north bank of the Mohawk River in Saratoga County. Crescent was the northern terminus of an aqueduct which carried the Erie Canal over the Mohawk River. The original wooden aqueduct was built in 1825. The 26-arched stone aqueduct which replaced the wooden structure, was demolished in 1918 and only fragments of the stone piers remain. In the 1840s, the cheap transportation provided by the canal spurred economic development in Crescent. The Blenheim–Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Station is a pumped-storage hydroelectricity plant in the Catskill Mountains of New York State.
