New York's 48th State Assembly district is one of the 150 districts in the New York State Assembly. It has been represented by Democrat Simcha Eichenstein since 2019. Geography District 48 is in Brooklyn. It covers the community of Borough Park and portions of Midwood in Brooklyn. The district overlaps (partially) with New York's 9th and 10th congressional districts, the 21st and 22nd districts of the New York State Senate, and the 38th, 39th, 40th, 44th and 45th districts of the New York City Council. The 1970 United States Senate election in New York was held on November 3, 1970, to elect New York's Class I Senator in its delegation. Representative Charles Goodell had been appointed by Governor Nelson Rockefeller to serve the remainder of Robert F. Kennedy's senatorial term, following Kennedy's assassination. Goodell attempted to win election to a full term in the Senate with the Republican and Liberal nominations, but faced opposition from Democratic nominee Richard Ottinger and Conservative nominee James L. Buckley. Buckley was able to win with a plurality of the popular vote due to the left-wing vote being split between Ottinger and Goodell. Buckley would serve in the Senate until his re-election bid was defeated by Daniel Patrick Moynihan in 1976. The 2016 United States Senate election in New York was held November 8, 2016, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the State of New York, concurrently with the presidential election, as well as other elections to the United States Senate in other states and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Dov Hikind (born June 30, 1950) is an American politician, activist, and radio talk show host in the state of New York. Hikind is a former Democratic New York State Assemblyman representing Brooklyn's Assembly district 48, having held this position for 35 years – from January 1983 until December 2018.
