A general election was held in the U.S. state of New Jersey on November 7, 2017. Partisan primary, Primary elections were held on June 6. All elected offices at the state level were on the ballot in this election cycle, including Governor of New Jersey, Governor and Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey, Lieutenant Governor for four-year terms, all 80 seats in the New Jersey General Assembly for two-year terms, and all 40 seats in the New Jersey Senate, State Senate for four-year terms. Thomas Howard Kean Jr. ( ; born September 5, 1968) is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative from New Jersey's 7th congressional district since 2023. He represented New Jersey's 21st legislative district in the New Jersey Senate from 2003 to 2022, serving as minority leader from 2008 to 2022. Stephen M. Sweeney (born June 11, 1959) is an American politician and labor leader who served in the New Jersey Senate from 2002 to 2022, representing the 3rd legislative district.
