New Jersey Americans (soccer)
The New Jersey Americans were an American soccer club based in New Brunswick, New Jersey that was a member of the American Soccer League. The team won the ASL championship in 1977, in its second year of existence. After the 1979 season, the club moved to Miami, Florida and became known as the Miami Americans. Telmo Pires
Telmo Pires (born April 4, 1953) is a retired soccer player professionally in the North American Soccer League, American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. Born in Portugal, he earned one cap with the United States men's national soccer team in 1975. Player Youth Pires grew up in Newark, New Jersey where he attended East Side High School. He was a three sport varsity letterman in soccer, baseball and basketball. When he was still in high school, he also played for the Newark Benfica. When he was seventeen, he scored three goals in Benfica's 5–1 victory over the New York Ukrainians in an indoor tournament held at the Elizabeth Armory. He attended Montclair State College. Bronisław "Jerry" Sularz (January 27, 1942, in Wałbrzych, Poland – August 29, 2007, in West Milford, New Jersey) was a Polish football (soccer) goalkeeper who spent four seasons in the North American Soccer League, at least two in the American Soccer League and six in Poland. Sularz began his career in Poland, playing with for Górnik Wałbrzych. In 1973, he moved to New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League. Arthur D. "Skip" Roderick is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League and the American Soccer League. He is the head coach of the NCAA Division III Elizabethtown College men's soccer team. Playing career As a youth, Roderick had played for the Delco youth club. He attended Elizabethtown College, graduating in 1974. In 1974, he played a single season with the Philadelphia Atoms of the North American Soccer League. John Roeslein is a retired American soccer player who was a member of championship teams at the high school, junior college, NCAA Division I and professional levels. He played two seasons in the American Soccer League where he was the 1976 Rookie of the Year. Youth Roeslein grew up in St. Louis, Missouri playing for numerous notable youth teams.
