New Canaan () is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 20,622 according to the 2020 census. The town is part of the Western Connecticut Planning Region. About an hour from New York City by train, the town is considered part of Connecticut's Gold Coast. The town is bounded on the south by Darien, to the west by Stamford, on the east by Wilton, on the southeast by Norwalk, and on the north by Lewisboro and Pound Ridge in Westchester County, New York. New Canaan is known for its architecture and public parks such as Waveny Park, and a town center with boutiques. Residents sing carols on God's Acre every Christmas Eve, a town tradition since 1916. Talmadge Hill Station
Talmadge Hill station is a commuter rail station on the New Canaan Branch of the Metro-North Railroad New Haven Line, located just south of the Merritt Parkway in New Canaan, Connecticut. Station layout The station has one four-car-long high-level side platform to the west of the single track. The Talmadge Hill station also has a central shelter typical of other small stations on the New Haven Line, as well as a pair of smaller shelters on either end of the platform. There are two parking lots to the west of the station and to the east there are six lots. The two lots furthest to the east are for daily parking, while the remaining are for monthly commuters with New Canaan resident permits. New Canaan station is a commuter rail station on the New Canaan Branch of the Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line in New Canaan, Connecticut. History The New Canaan Railroad was chartered in May 1866 as a short branch of the New York & New Haven Railroad from its main line at Stamford to New Canaan. The branch and this station opened on July 4, 1868. The town of New Canaan bought an option for a site on Old Stamford Road in March 1955, which would allow the town to build a new station with a parking lot, and the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad announced plans for the new station and parking lot that September. The railroad and town signed an agreement in 1958 to build a new station at Fairty Orchards, about south of the old New Canaan station, and the railroad asked the town of New Canaan to acquire the existing New Canaan station the following January. Waveny Park
Waveny Park (also known as Waveny House) is a park in New Canaan, Connecticut. The park's centerpiece is "the castle" built in 1912 and surrounded by of fields, ponds and trails. The architect for the structure was William Tubby. Landscape design for the original residence was by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. The house was used for exterior shots for the fictional 'Cortlandt Manor' on the soap opera ''All My Children'' for many years; exteriors of the estate were also used in the 2004 remake film '' The Stepford Wives''.
