New Brighton Tower F.C.
New Brighton Tower Football Club was a short-lived football club based in New Brighton, Merseyside, England. Established in 1896, the club spent three seasons in the Football League before folding in 1901. They played at the Tower Athletic Ground. History Like Sheffield United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Thames, New Brighton Tower were formed to play at an already-built stadium. The owners of the New Brighton Tower, a seaside attraction built to rival the Blackpool Tower, decided there was a need to provide winter entertainment, and had built a stadium adjacent to the tower. The football club was formed in 1896 to provide the entertainment, and joined the Lancashire League at the start of the 1897–98 season. After finishing as champions in their first season, the club applied for election to the Football League. The Tower Athletic Ground was a sports ground in New Brighton, Merseyside, England. It was the home ground of both New Brighton Tower and New Brighton A.F.C. Sandheys Park was a association football, football ground in New Brighton, Merseyside, New Brighton, England. It was the home ground of New Brighton A.F.C. from 1921 until World War II. History In 1921 the football club purchased a 3.5-acre site which had previously been used as a school playing field. A 1,000-seat covered stand with a terraced paddock was built on the northern touchline, and the ground was opened later in the same year. New Brighton were elected to the Third Division North of the Football League in 1923, and the first Football League match at Sandheys Park was played on 29 August 1923, with New Brighton and Chesterfield F.C., Chesterfield drawing 0–0 in front of 3,000 spectators. 1900–01 Football League
The 1900– 01 season was the 13th season of The Football League. Final league tables Beginning in the 1894–95 season, clubs finishing level on points were separated according to goal average (goals scored divided by goals conceded). In case one or more teams had the same goal difference, this system favoured those teams who had conceded fewer goals. The goal average system was eventually scrapped beginning with the 1976–77 season. During the first six seasons of the league, (up to the 1893–94 season), re-election process concerned the clubs which finished in the bottom four of the league. From the 1894–95 season and until the 1920–21 season the re-election process was required of the clubs which finished in the bottom three of the league.
