Nintendo Entertainment System
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit home video game console developed and marketed by Nintendo. It was first released in Japan on 15 July 1983 as the and was later released as the redesigned NES in several test markets in the United States beginning on 18 October 1985, followed by a nationwide launch on 27 September 1986. The NES was distributed in Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia throughout the 1980s under various names. As a third-generation console, it mainly competed with Sega's Master System. Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi called for a simple, cheap console that could run arcade games on cartridges. The Famicom was designed by lead architect Masayuki Uemura, with its controller design reused from Nintendo's portable Game & Watch hardware. Nes Municipality (Sør-Trøndelag)
Nes is a former municipality in the old Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1899 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality encompassed the coastal land north of the Bjugnfjorden as well as the Tarva islands in what is now part of Ørland Municipality in Trøndelag county. The administrative centre of Nes was the village of Nes where the Nes Church is located. Prior to its dissolution in 1964, the municipality was the 577th largest by area out of the 689 municipalities in Norway. Nes Municipality was the 597th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of about 1,111. The Nenets Autonomous Okrug (; ) also known as Nenetsia ( ) is a federal subject of Russia and an autonomous okrug of Arkhangelsk Oblast. Its administrative center is the town of Naryan-Mar. It has an area of and a population of 42,090 as of the 2010 Census, making it the least populous federal subject. Nes () is a rural locality (a selo) in Zapolyarny District, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia. It had a population of 1,368 as of 2010, a decrease from its population of 1,446 in 2002. Geography Nes is located about 280 km southwest of Naryan-Mar and about 85 km northeast of Mezen, in the southern portion of the Kanin Peninsula. It is situated on the eponymous River Nes, about 12 km inland. Nes is barely north of the Arctic Circle. History The settlement first appeared as a fishing settlement in the second half of the 18th century. By the 1830s, the village had seven farmsteads. Its Orthodox church was built in 1831, but burned down 26 years later, in 1857. Transport There is no paved road to Nes, so the only way to get to and from the village is by air. Schagen () is a city and municipality in the northwestern Netherlands. Nes is a Dutch village in the municipality of Heerenveen, Friesland. It is situated in the northern part of the country. Since the village is close to Akkrum, they usually speak about Akkrum-Nes. History The mound, on which the belfry ( Dutch: Klokkenstoel) stands, is a relic of the monastery Nesser (Nesker Konvent). The monastery was founded around 1200 by the Teutonic Order. The monastery had a lot of land in ownership and has been very important for both the village of Nes, as the extraction and management of the surrounding area. The monastery is at the beginning of the 17th century on decline, the church "St. Nicholas" however, lasted longer, but eventually the church was demolished because it was on decline. Nes (; sometimes called de Nes, "the Nes") is a narrow, old, street in Binnenstad (Amsterdam), central Amsterdam, Netherlands. It runs parallel to and to the east of Rokin, between Dam Square to the north and Grimburgwal to the south. The Dutch word ''wikt:nes#Noun 2, nes'' means headland or spit (compare the English word "wikt:ness, ness", often found as a suffix in placenames, such as Inverness). Until the seventeenth century, the northern part of Nes (roughly near where Dam Square now is) was called ''Gansoord'' ("Goose-oord"). (An ''oord'' (:nl:Oord (geografie), nl) is a piece of land between where two rivers meet.) The name most likely described the nature of the street's original situation among the waterways of Amsterdam.
