The Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar or NCP–SP is a political party in India formed under the leadership of Sharadchandra Pawar. It was formed after Election Commission of India recognised the group led by Ajit Pawar as the original Nationalist Congress Party. History In July 2023, Ajit Pawar, along with 40 MLAs, left the Sharad Pawar, Sharadchandra Pawar (commonly known as Sharad Pawar) led Nationalist Congress Party and joined the ruling Shiv Sena (2022–present), Shiv Sena – Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP government as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. This caused the 2023 Nationalist Congress Party split, split in NCP. On 7 February 2024, Election Commission Of India (ECI) awarded the party name and symbol to the faction headed by Ajit Pawar. Sharadchandra Pawar
Sharadchandra Govindrao Pawar (, pronunciation: əɾəd̪ pəʋaːɾ born 12 December 1940) is an Indian politician. Pawar served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for four terms and in the Union Council of Ministers as the Minister of Defence in the Cabinet of P.V. Narasimha Rao as well as the Minister of Agriculture in the Cabinet of Manmohan Singh. He is the first and only president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which he founded in 1999, after separating from the Indian National Congress. Currently, Pawar leads his faction of the NCP in the Rajya Sabha, the upper chamber of the Indian parliament. He is the chairperson of Maha Vikas Aghadi, a regional Maharashtra-based political alliance. Pawar was born in Baramati, Maharashtra, and is the patriarch of the Pawar political family.
