National Front (Italy, 1997)
The National Front (''Fronte Nazionale'', FN) is an Italian far-right political party. The FN had its roots in the Tricolour Flame when two leading radicals, Tomaso Staiti di Cuddia and Adriano Tilgher, were expelled from the party in 1997. As a response Tilgher formed his own group in September of that year, calling it ''National Front'' (a name already used twice before on the Italian far right) and basing it on the French National Front of Jean-Marie Le Pen. The party, which initially confined its operations largely to Rome, gained 18,000 votes in that city in the local elections of 1998. The party began to expand in early 2000, seeking to work with other minor groups on the far right to form a united alternative to the National Alliance. Adriano Tilgher (politician)
Adriano Tilgher (born 1 October 1947 in Taranto) is an Italian far-right politician. Biography Tilgher began his career as a member of the neo-fascist Italian Social Movement, although in his youth he was also associated with the neo-fascist extremist National Vanguard, and attempted to refound it in 1970. He was given a prison sentence for what was judged an attempt to refound the Fascist Party. In the late 1970s Tilgher directed a transnational neofascist magazine entitled ''Confidentiel'' in Rome. It was founded by Stefano Delle Chiaie in Paris in 1979. In 1987 he founded the ''Lega Nazionalpopolare'', later rebranded as ''Alternativa Nazional Popolare''. Both movements proved short-lived and lacking in support. The National Rally (, , RN), known as the National Front from 1972 to 2018 (, , FN), is a French far-right political party, described as right-wing populist and nationalist. It is the single largest parliamentary opposition party in the National Assembly since 2022. It opposes immigration, advocating significant cuts to legal immigration, protection of French identity, and stricter control of illegal immigration. The party advocates a "more balanced" and "independent" French foreign policy, opposing French military intervention in Africa while supporting France leaving NATO's integrated command. Francesco Storace (born 25 January 1959) is an Italian politician and journalist. Biography Born in Cassino, in the Lazio region, Storace began his career at the right-wing newspaper '' Il Secolo d'Italia'' until entering the ranks of the Italian Social Movement (MSI), a neo-fascist party, and later of National Alliance (AN), a post-fascist party that repudiated of extremism. 2006 Italian General Election
The 2006 Italian general election was held on 9 and 10 April 2006. Romano Prodi, leader of the centre-left coalition The Union, narrowly defeated the incumbent Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, leader of the centre-right coalition House of Freedoms. Initial exit polls suggested a victory for Prodi, but the results narrowed as the count progressed. On 11 April 2006, Prodi declared victory; Berlusconi never conceded defeat and an ensuing dispute formed. Preliminary results showed The Union leading the House of Freedoms in the Chamber of Deputies, with 340 seats to 277, thanks to obtaining a majority bonus (actual votes were distributed 49.81% to 49.74%). Alessandra Mussolini (born 30 December 1962) is an Italian politician, television personality, model and former actress and singer. The 2004 European Parliament election in Italy was held on 12 and 13 June 2004. Italy's highly fragmented party system made it hard to identify an overall trend, but the results were generally seen as a defeat for Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and a victory for the centre-left opposition coalition identified with Romano Prodi, who was President of the European Commission until 2004, and was widely expected to re-enter Italian politics at the next election.
