The National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (, CNRT) is a political party in East Timor founded by former President Xanana Gusmão in March 2007 in preparation for the 2007 parliamentary election. According to provisional results, the party won 24.10% of the vote in the 2007 election, placing second behind FRETILIN, which won 29%. Based on the results, the CNRT would have 18 seats in parliament. Xanana Gusmão
José Alexandre "Xanana" Gusmão (; born 20 June 1946) is an East Timorese politician. He has served as the 6th prime minister of East Timor since 2023, previously serving in that position from 2007 to 2015. A former rebel, he also served as East Timor's first president since its re-establishment of independence from 2002 to 2007. Early life and career Gusmão was born in , Manatuto, in what was then Portuguese Timor, as the second son in a large family. His parents, both of whom were school teachers, were of mixed Portuguese-Timorese ancestry, and his family were '' assimilados''. He attended a Jesuit school in Dare, just outside Dili, and Dili High School. After leaving high-school for financial reasons at the age of 15 in 1961, he held a variety of unskilled jobs, while continuing his education at night school. Timorese Social Democratic Association
The Timorese Social Democratic Association (; abbreviated ASDT) was a political party in East Timor. Both the original ASDT of the 1970s (which became Fretilin) and the current party of the same name are founded by the late ex-Timorese President Francisco Xavier do Amaral. The People's Liberation Party (; abbreviated PLP) is a political party in Timor-Leste (formerly East Timor). Alliance For Change And Progress
The Alliance for Change and Progress (AMP) (, ) was a three-party alliance in East Timor. Until 1 February 2018, the alliance was called Parliamentary Majority Alliance (, ). Presidential elections were held in Timor-Leste on 19 March 2022. Incumbent Francisco Guterres sought election to a second term. As none of the presidential nominees received at least 50% of the cast votes, a Two-round system, runoff was held on 19 April 2022, between the top two candidates, José Ramos-Horta and Guterres. Ramos-Horta won the runoff with 62.1% of the total votes cast. The election marked the first time that someone had been re-elected to the East Timorese presidency (albeit to a non-consecutive term), as well as the second time that an incumbent president had been defeated – after the 2012 East Timorese presidential election, 2012 election, when Ramos-Horta was eliminated in the first round.
