National Camogie League
The National Camogie League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Very Ireland Camogie Leagues, is a competition in the Irish team sport of camogie, played exclusively by women. The competition is held in three divisions graded by ability. It was first played in 1976 for a trophy donated by Allied Irish Banks when Tipperary beat Wexford in a replayed final. Division Two (originally the National Junior League) was inaugurated in 1979 and won by Kildare. The first two National League competitions started in the autumn and finished in the spring of 1976–77 and 1977–78 respectively. Since then the competition has been completed within the calendar year. The 2001 final was not played until October because of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak earlier in the year. From 1980 to 2005 the National League was divided into two sections – Senior and Junior. Reserve teams from the leading counties were allowed enter the Junior League after 1982. The 2022 National Camogie League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Shop Direct, Littlewoods Ireland Camogie Leagues, commences in February 2022. Format League structure The 2022 National Camogie League consists of four divisions, each divided into several groups: *Division 1 contains 9 teams, divided into one group of 5 and one group of 4 *Division 2 contains 13 teams, divided into one group of 5 and two groups of 4 *Division 3 contains 11 teams, divided into one group of 5 and one group of 6 *Division 4 contains 5 teams, all in one group Each team plays every other team in its group once. 3 points are awarded for a win and 1 for a draw. 2006 National Camogie League
The 2006 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Cork, who defeated Tipperary in the final, played at Thurles. The Final The final was played immediately after the Munster hurling championship match between Tipperary and Limerick. Cork settled well despite having to wait 12 minutes for their opening score. Tipperary got the better start with a Claire Grogan free after just a minute and a half. It took Cork another 10 minutes to open the scoring, when Jennifer O'Leary sent over the first of her four frees. An Emily Hayden goal gave Tipperary a 2-2 to 0-5 half time lead. Emer Dillon scored a Cork goal on the restart to level the scores and from then on Cork were in full control. The 2000 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's’ team field sport of camogie was won by Cork, who defeated Tipperary in the final, played at O'Connor Park, Tullamore. Arrangements Tipperary easily defeated Armagh and Derry and overcame an inexperienced Kilkenny team before they defeated Galway after extra time in a closely fought semi-final. The 1999 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won for the fifth time succession by Cork, who defeated Tipperary by an astonishing 36 points in the final, played at Thurles. The one-sided result was, surprisingly, reversed by Tipperary in the championship when they beat Kilkenny in the 1999 All-Ireland championship final replay four months later, Kilkenny having beaten Cork in a replayed semi-final. It was the first National League to be played since the rules of camogie changed the team size to 15-a-side, although the 1993 and 1994 League had been played on an experimental basis with 15 players a side. The 1998 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Cork, who defeated Galway in the final, played at Ballinasloe. It was the last National League to be played with 12-a-side. Arrangements Galway beat Kilkenny 3-10 to 1-13 in the semi-final on May 24. The 1997 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Cork, who defeated Kilkenny in the final, played at Páirc Uí Rinn. The 1996 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Cork, who defeated Galway in the final, played at Páirc Uí Rinn. Arrangements Cork beat Kilkenny 4-9 to 2-8 and the Galway beat Kilkenny 6-13 to 5-12 in the semi-final, a first ever victory by Galway over Kilkenny at senior level. Arrangements Armagh, who won the All-Ireland Junior title in 1993 and the Intermediate title in 1994, were competing for the first time and created the first of several major shocks when they defeated understrength title holders Galway by 3-8 to 0-13 at Middleton, with the help of a first half goals from Bernie McBride, a kicked goal from Patricia McEvoy as the game entered the last quarter and a late free from Ursula McGivern. The 1992 National Camogie League is a competition in the women's team field sport of camogie was won by Cork, who defeated Wexford in the final, played at Enniscorthy. Arrangements Wexford beat Dublin by 2-14 to 3-3 in the semi-final at O'Toole Park. The Final Cork outclassed Wexford in the final on front of a large crowd at Belfield, Eniscorthy.
