Nasr City
Nasr City ( ) forms two of the nine districts of the Eastern Area of Cairo, Egypt. It is administratively divided into Nasr City West/One ''(Gharb Madinet Nasr/awwal),'' and Nasr City East/Two (''Sharq Madinet Nasr/thani''). In 2021, Nasr City had a third district sub-divided from Nasr City East to be named either Nasr City Third or Al-Amal, as well as a ''qism'' (police ward) named Nasr City Third. History Nasr City was established in the 1960s as an extension to the neighboring settlement of Heliopolis. The establishment of the district was part of the Egyptian Government's plan to modernise and expand Cairo following the Egyptian Revolution of 1952. Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian President at the time, was involved personally in the design process, and was the one who chose the name Nasr for the new district ("''nasr''" being the Arabic word for "victory"). Eastern European Time
Eastern European Time (EET) is one of the names of UTC+02:00 time zone, 2 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time. The zone uses daylight saving time, so that it uses UTC+03:00 during the summer. A number of African countries use UTC+02:00 all year long, where it is called Central Africa Time (CAT), although Egypt and Libya also use the term ''Eastern European Time''. Cairo Metro
The Cairo Metro (, lit. "Cairo Tunnel Metro" or ) is a rapid transit system in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It was the first of the three full-fledged metro systems in Africa and the first in the Middle East to be constructed. It was opened in 1987 as Line 1 from Helwan to Ramses Square with a length of . As of 2013, the metro carried nearly 4 million passengers per day. As of 15 May 2024, the Cairo Metro has 84 stations of which 5 are transfer stations, with a total length of . Jellabiya
The jellabiya, also jalabiya, galabeya or jalamia ( / ALA-LC: ' in Sudanese Arabic, and ''Galabiya'' in Egyptian Arabic: ē-); is a loose-fitting, traditional garment from the Nile Valley. Today, it is the Clothing in Sudan, national clothing in Sudan and is also associated with farmers living in Egypt (Greater Cairo, countryside, Luxor, and Aswan), it comes in rich color varieties. The garment is also worn in Eritrea and Ethiopia, but has other textures and is usually white. Origin The earliest forms of Jalabeya can be traced back to Ancient Egypt and Nubia, Ancient Nubia (modern-day Sudan) where similar long, loose-fitting garments were worn by both men and women. The Unknown Soldier Memorial in Cairo is a pyramid-shaped monument in Nasr City.
