Napoleón Nassar Herrera
Napoleón Nazar Herrera (pronounced: Nassar) is a Honduran military officer who worked in the controversial Battalion 3–16 who successively became leader of the General Department of Criminal Investigation (DGIC), high Commissioner of Police for the north-west region in the Manuel Zelaya government, and one of the Secretary of Security's spokespeople in the ''de facto'' government of Roberto Micheletti. Civil career As of late 2005, during the Ricardo Maduro presidency, Nazar was leader of the General Department of Criminal Investigation (DGIC). On 5 June 2005, agents from the DGIC put a community leader who had been stabbed and wounded on his face, neck, back, sides and hands by paramilitaries, Feliciano Pineda, into chains and imprisoned him in Gracias. Battalion 3-16 (Honduras)
Intelligence Battalion 3–16 or Battallón 316 (various names: ''Group of 14'' (1979–1981), ''Special Investigations Branch (DIES)'' (1982–1983), ''Intelligence Battalion 3–16'' (from 1982 or 1984 to 1986), ''Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence Branch'' (since 1987)) was the name of a Honduran Army unit responsible for carrying out political assassinations and torture of suspected political opponents of the government during the 1980s. Roberto Micheletti Baín (born August 13, 1943) is a Honduran politician who served as the interim and 36th president of Honduras from June 28, 2009, to January 27, 2010, as a result of the 2009 Honduran coup d'état. The Honduran military ousted the President, and the National Congress read a letter of resignation, which was refuted two minutes later by Manuel Zelaya in conversation with CNN en Español; days later, the coup-plotters claimed that the Supreme Court had ordered to forcefully detain President Manuel Zelaya because "he was violating the Honduran constitution"; Zelaya was exiled rather than arrested. Ricardo Maduro
Ricardo Rodolfo Maduro Joest (born 20 April 1946 in Panama) is a Honduran economist and politician who served as 34th President of Honduras from 27 January 2002 to 27 January 2006. A member of the National Party, Maduro was previously chairman of the Central Bank of Honduras. He graduated from The Lawrenceville School (where he was awarded the Lawrenceville Medal, Lawrenceville's highest award to alumni) and later Stanford University. Gracias () is a small Honduran town/municipality that was founded in 1536, and is the capital of Lempira Department. The municipality has a population of 61,421 and the town a population of 18,550 (2023 calculation). It is located in the mountainous center of western Honduras. 2009 Honduran Constitutional Crisis
The 2009 Honduran constitutional crisis was a political dispute over plans to hold a popular referendum to either rewrite the Constitution of Honduras or write a new one. Honduran President Manuel Zelaya planned to hold a poll on a referendum on a constituent assembly to change the constitution. A majority of the government, including the Supreme Court and prominent members of Zelaya's own party, saw these plans as unconstitutional as they could lead to presidential reelection, which is permanently outlawed by the Honduran constitution. The Honduran Supreme Court upheld a lower court injunction against a 28 June poll.
