Naphtha, Alberta
Naphtha is a hamlet located in Foothills County, Alberta, Canada approximately south of the town of Diamond Valley and north of the village of Longview along Alberta Highway 22. The name comes from the liquid product Naphtha. Many of the houses in the original hamlet were bunkhouses built to house workers for the Home Oil Company, who drilled their first well in the area in 1929. Home Oil Company
Home Oil Company Limited was a Canadian independent petroleum company that existed from 1925 and 1995. Home was founded to produce oil in the Turner Valley field, and by the end of World War II was the country's largest independent producer. Between 1952 and 1972, Home was controlled by Robert A. Brown Jr., who pursued an aggressive and high-risk strategy. From 1979 and 1991 Home Oil operated as a wholly owned subsidiary, first of the Consumers' Gas Company, then of Hiram Walker, and lastly of the Interprovincial Pipe Line Company. On 1 May 1991, Home Oil regained its independent status, which it retained for the duration of its existence. In 1995, Anderson Exploration acquired Home for C$879 million. Alberta Highway 22
Highway 22, officially named Cowboy Trail, is a highway in the Canadian province of Alberta. It generally parallels Highway 2, beginning in the foothills of southern Alberta at Highway 3 near Lundbreck Falls. It proceeds north along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains passing through the foothills and ranch country to the aspen parkland of northern Alberta, ending at Highway 18 near Mayerthorpe. Longview, Alberta
Longview is a village in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located in the Canadian Rockies foothills, on Cowboy Trail, 32 km west of High River and 64 km south of Calgary. Highwood River flows west of the village. Longview is known for its long view west toward the first range of the Rocky Mountains, its cattle ranching heritage and its natural resources (principally oil), but more importantly the open spaces, rivers (the Highwood) and some of the finest beef by most standards.
