Napa County Airport (Napa Valley Airport) is a public airport five miles (8 km) south of Napa, in Napa County, California, United States. It has three runways. During 2008 the airport's 1960-era control tower received extensive radio, plumbing and electrical upgrades and renovations funded by the federal government. Airport officials said the airport had about 122,000 flights take off or land at the facility annually in 2008. History The airport was built by the United States Army Air Forces in the early 1940s, and was known as Napa Flight Strip. It was an emergency landing airfield for military aircraft on training flights. It was expanded later in the war and renamed Napa Army Airfield, becoming an auxiliary airfield of the Fourth Air Force Hamilton Army Airfield. 4th Air Force used the base to train replacement fighter pilots, primarily flying P-38 Lightnings before being deployed overseas. Stol Air Commuter
Stol Air Commuter was a United States commuter airline that began service around . The air carrier was also known as STOL Air Commuter thus reflecting its use of STOL (short take-off and landing) aircraft. It served the San Francisco, California Bay Area, and northern California. The airline was based in San Rafael in Marin County north of the city of San Francisco and also had administrative offices located in Santa Rosa, CA at one point. The Beechcraft Model 99 is a civilian aircraft produced by American manufacturer Beechcraft. It is also known as the Beech 99 Airliner and the Commuter 99. The 99 is a twin-engine, unpressurized, 15 to 17 passenger seat turboprop aircraft, derived from the earlier Beechcraft King Air and Beechcraft Queen Air, Queen Air. It uses the wings of the Queen Air, the engines and nacelles of the King Air, and sub-systems from both, with a specifically designed nose structure. Golden Pacific Airlines, IATA YB (1981–1989) was a United States regional airline that operated primarily in Arizona. It was unrelated to the Golden Pacific Airlines of the 1970s. History Golden Pacific Airlines (YB) was founded in 1981 in Kingman, Arizona and operated a fleet of 10 seat Cessna 402 aircraft under Part 135 of Federal Air Regulations. Designated an Essential Air Service provider under provisions of the 1979 Airline Deregulation Act the carrier was selected by the US Civil Aeronautics Board, in 1981, to replace Cochise Airlines in providing Air Service to Kingman and Prescott, AZ over a linear Phoenix-Prescott-Kingman-Las Vegas route. Pacific Air Lines was a local service carrier on the West Coast of the United States that began scheduled passenger flights in the mid-1940s under the name Southwest Airways.
