Naomh Máirtín Cumann Peile Gaelach is a Gaelic football and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Monasterboice, County Louth, Ireland. History Naomh Máirtín was founded in 1957 and named after Martin of Tours. They reached the finals of the 2018 and 2019 Louth Senior Football Championship, losing on both occasions to Newtown Blues. In 2020 the club won the county senior championship for the first time in its history, defeating St Mary's. Twelve months later the club repeated this success, overcoming St Mochta's to win back-to-back titles. Forward Sam Mulroy has been captain of the Louth senior footballers since 2021. He received an All-Star nomination in 2024. He lifted the Delaney Cup in 2025 after Louth's Leinster final victory against Meath and received the Man of the Match award. The Monasterboice () ruins are the remains of an early Christian monastic settlement in County Louth in Ireland, north of Drogheda. Leinster Senior Football Championship
The Leinster Senior Football Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship and shortened to Leinster SFC, is an annual inter-county Gaelic football competition organised by the Leinster GAA, Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The Louth Junior 2A Football Championship is an annual knockout gaelic football competition organised by Louth GAA, contested by the second teams of Senior clubs in County Louth. Cardinal O'Donnell Cup
The Cardinal O'Donnell Cup is an annual senior league competition organised by Louth GAA for the Division 1 teams in Gaelic football in County Louth. Format All 12 teams play each other once, with the top four traditionally qualifying for the semi-final stage. The semi-final victors then face off in the final of the competition. There is also relegation to Division 2 for the worst-performing team(s). Trophy The winning team is presented with the Cardinal O'Donnell Cup, named after Patrick O'Donnell, who was Catholic Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland from 1924 until his death in October 1927. The Louth Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition, organised by Louth GAA, among the intermediate grade Gaelic football clubs in County Louth, Ireland. History The competition, introduced as a bridge between the senior and junior grades, was first staged in 1907 and annually until 1912, when the county board discontinued it. It was revived 32 years later in 1944. However, the competition was only staged twice before it lapsed again. J P Rooney (John Paul) is a retired Gaelic footballer from Monasterboice in County Louth, Ireland. He played with the Louth senior football team and his local club side Naomh Máirtín. He also represented his province in the 2002 Railway Cup. He received the Drogheda Independent/Drogheda Concentrates Sportstar of the Year Award for 2000. Rooney lined out at left corner-forward on the Louth team that played in the final of the 2010 Leinster Senior Football Championship. He contributed 1-1 as the Wee County lost in controversial circumstances to Meath. His inter-county career came to an end in 2012, having played in 38 Championship games for Louth. In 2020 at the age of 40, Rooney appeared as a substitute for Naomh Máirtín in the Louth Senior Football Championship final, helping his club win the Joe Ward Cup for the first time in its history. Brendan Reilly (Louth Gaelic Footballer)
Brendan Reilly (5 January 1979 – 16 September 2017) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. He came from a farming family outside Ardee, County Louth. At club level, he played with his local team John Mitchels (partly founded by his father Eugene Reilly) and later Naomh Máirtín. He represented his county Louth at senior level for several years, winning a National Football League Division 2 medal in 2000. Michael Fanning (Gaelic Footballer)
Michael "Mick" Fanning (born 1986) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Louth county team. He is a long-serving member of his local club team Naomh Máirtín. He played in defence for the Louth senior team and lined out at centre-half back in the controversial 2010 Leinster Senior Football Championship Final against Meath. In 2011 Fanning emigrated to Australia in search of work with his county teammates John O'Brien and Brian White, missing out on a National League Division 3 winners' medal as a consequence.
