Nahr, Lahore
The Nahr (Urdu/Punjabi language, Punjabi: نہر) is a canal that runs through the east of the city of Lahore, Punjab (Pakistan), Punjab in Pakistan. It diverges from the BRB Canal, Bambawali-Ravi-Bedian (BRB) Canal. This long waterway was initially built by the Mughals. It was then upgraded by the British in 1861. It is an important part of the city's cultural heritage. The Nahr is managed by the Lahore Zone of the Punjab Irrigation Department. The University of the Punjab (UoP) is a public university, public research university in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, Punjab, Pakistan. Founded in 1882, its international influence has made it one of the most prestigious universities in South Asia; being the oldest and largest public sector one in the wider Punjab, Punjab region, as well as in Pakistan. The first meeting of the University's Senate was on 14 October 1882 at Shimla, Simla, which marked the formal establishment of the university.
