Nadroga-Navosa Province
Nadroga-Navosa (Nadroga dialect, Nadroga: ''Nadroga-Navoha'') is one of the fourteen provinces of Fiji and one of eight based in Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. It is about 2,385 square kilometers and occupies the South-West and Central areas of Viti Levu, Fiji's principal island. The province includes the Mamanuca Archipelago,Malolo Islands, off the west coast of Viti Levu, Vatulele (or Vahilele in the Nadroga dialect), as well as the remote Conway Reef in the southwest. The population at the 2017 census was 58,931, being the fifth largest province. The main town in Nadroga-Navosa is Sigatoka, Fiji, Sigatoka, with a population of 9622 (2007 census). Geography Nadroga/Navosa's principal town is Sigatoka, situated near the mouth of the Sigatoka River. Nadroga is famous for its sunshine and white sandy beaches. Provinces Of Fiji
The Provinces of Fiji (''"veiyasana" ''(pl.) and ''"yasana"'' (s.) in the Fijian language), and ''"प्रदेश''" in the Fiji Hindi language are the 14 administrative units into which the country is divided, particularly in relation to the provision of resources and services to the indigenous Fijian population by the Fijian Affairs Board. They are more or less derived from the major clan affiliations for each provincial region. Structure The most basic administrative unit in modern Fijian communities is the ''koro'' (village). Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi
Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi, is a Fijian politician of Indian descent. He was one of the youngest members to be elected into Parliament in 1992. He has represented the Nadroga Indian Communal Constituency, which he won for the Fiji Labour Party (FLP) in the parliamentary elections of 1992, 1994, 1999, 2001, and 2006. After the 1999 election he was appointed Assistant Minister in Prime Minister's Office. He was appointed Minister for Youth and Sports and Employment Opportunities in the interim administration that followed the military coup that took place on 5 December 2006. He was born to a family of Rajasthani descent. On 19 May 2000, he was among the 43 members of the People's Coalition Government, led by Mahendra Chaudhry, taken hostage by George Speight and his band of rebel Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) soldiers from the Counter Revolutionary Warfare Unit. Gabriel Sharma is an Anglican Bishop in Fiji. On 1 May 2005, he became the first Indo-Fijian to be consecrated as an Anglican Bishop, the first ethnic Indian Bishop in the Province of Aotearoa, of which Fiji forms a part, and the first Bishop specifically assigned to Fiji's Western Division, when he was installed as Bishop of Viti Levu West. Apimeleki Qiliho
Apimeleki Nadoki Qiliho is an indigenous Fijian from the Province of Nadroga-Navosa in the Fiji Islands and a retired Anglican bishop. Consecrated a bishop on 10 April 2005, he became "Bishop in Vanua Levu and Taveuni" in the Diocese of Polynesia (Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia) — he made church history by becoming the first indigenous Fijian bishop in that church. He was one of three suffragan (assistant) bishops (consecrated the same day) who served under the diocesan Bishop of Polynesia (then Jabez Bryce) — the diocese covers Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum (born 24 September 1965) is a Fijian politician and a former cabinet minister. He was the Fijian Attorney-General and the Minister for Economy, Civil Service and Communications, and also served as the Minister responsible for Climate Change under the FijiFirst government. Viliame Gavoka
Viliame "Bill" Rogoibulu Gavoka (; born 8 July 1950) is a Fijian politician and Cabinet Minister. From 28 November 2020 to 2022 he was leader of the Social Democratic Liberal Party, after ousting Sitiveni Rabuka in the SODELPA leadership contest. Early life Gavoka studied at Ratu Kadavulevu School when he was younger. He studied at the University of the South Pacific for his tertiary education. He was the Chairman of the Fiji Visitors Bureau but was removed from the post in 2009 by the Frank Bainimarama-led government. In May 2009, he was appointed the chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union. In June 2010, he made media headlines when he "prophesied" a natural disaster would hit Fiji on June 23 at 2.30 pm. He was charged for spreading rumours. Apisai Domolailai (born 16 April 1989) is a Fijian rugby union player. He plays for 's rugby sevens team. He was named in the squad to the 2016 Summer Olympics. He made his debut for Fiji in 2012. Rajesh Chandra
Rajesh Chandra was a Fijian academic. In February 2005 he was appointed the first Vice-Chancellor of the newly founded University of Fiji. He served as Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of the South Pacific (USP) ending his term in December 2018. After his retirement, he was appointed the Chancellor of Fiji National University, holding office from April 2019 until January 2020 when he stepped down for medical reasons. He died on 16 November 2023 after a long illness. Nadi
Nadi (, ) is the second-largest city in Fiji. It is located on the western side of the main island of Viti Levu, and had a population of 59,707 at the most recent census, in 2017.
