Nadine Désirée Masshardt (born 4 October 1984) is a Swiss politician who currently serves on the National Council (Switzerland) for the Social Democratic Party since 2013. Concurrently she also serves as vice-chair of the SP- Federal Palace Delegation. The National Council (; ; ; ) is a house of the Federal Assembly (Switzerland), Federal Assembly of Switzerland, representing the people. The other house, Council of States (Switzerland), Council of States, represents the states, preventing more populous parts of the country overpowering the rest. As the powers of the houses are the same, it is sometimes called perfect bicameralism. Both houses meet in the Federal Palace of Switzerland in Bern. The national council comprises 200 persons. The Grand Council (, ) is the parliament of the Swiss canton of Bern. It consists of 160 members (as of 2006) elected by proportional representation for a four-year term of office. The French-speaking part of the canton, the Bernese Jura (districts of Courtelary, La Neuveville and Moutier) has 12 seats guaranteed, and 3 seats are guaranteed for the French-speaking minority of the bilingual district of Biel/Bienne. Election The council is re-elected every four years. Like other legislatures in Switzerland, elections use party list proportional representation.
