Mutdapilly is a rural locality in south-east Queensland, Australia. It is split between the local government areas of Scenic Rim Region and City of Ipswich. In the , Mutdapilly had a population of 308 people. Geography Mutdapilly is centrally divided by the north/south running Cunningham Highway. The eastern boundary follows Warrill Creek. There is one of fifteen air quality monitoring stations in the region located at Mutdapilly. History The name ''Mutdapilly'' is believed to be a combination word from the Yuggera language (Yugarabul dialect) where ''mudtherri'' means ''sticky'' or ''muddy'' and ''pilly'' means ''gully''. The name was given by Captain Patrick Logan on 9 June 1827. Local farmer, Mr Denman, donated 2 acres of land to build a school. The Normanby State School and teacher's residence was opened on 27 April 1874; the first head teacher was John Stanfell Clowes who served at the school until 31 July 1876. Cunningham Highway
The Cunningham Highway is a national highway located in south-eastern Queensland, Australia. The highway links the Darling Downs region with the urbanised outskirts of via Cunninghams Gap. The Cunningham carries the National Highway 15 shield between Ipswich and north of at its junction with the New England Highway at Glengallan where both the Cunningham and the New England head south concurrently to Warwick. Thereafter, the Cunningham carries the National Highway 42 shield to its south-western terminus with the Leichhardt Highway at Goondiwindi. The majority of the Cunningham Highway is a single carriageway with freeway standard and 6-lane arterial road standard towards its north-eastern terminus, near Ipswich. The Scenic Rim Region is a local government area in West Moreton region of South East Queensland, Australia. Established in 2008, it was preceded by several previous local government areas with histories extending back to the early 1900s and beyond. The main town of the region is Beaudesert. Henry Frewen Le Fanu (1 April 1870 – 9 September 1946) was an Anglican bishop in Australia. Early life Le Fanu was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was educated at Haileybury and Keble College, Oxford. Charles Edward Chauvel OBE (7 October 1897 – 11 November 1959) was an Australian filmmaker, producer and screenwriter and nephew of Australian army General Sir Harry Chauvel. He is noted for writing and directing the films ''Forty Thousand Horsemen'' in 1940 and ''Jedda'' in 1955. His wife, Elsa Chauvel, was a frequent collaborator on his filmmaking projects. Early life Family Charles Edward Chauvel was born on 7 October 1897 in Warwick, Queensland, the son of James Allan Chauvel and his wife Susan Isabella (née Barnes), pioneer farmers in the Mutdapilly area. He was the nephew of General Sir Harry Chauvel, Commander of the Australian Light Horse and later the Desert Mounted Corps in Palestine during World War I. His father, a grazier, at 53 also enlisted to serve in Palestine and Sinai in World War I. Patrick Logan
Captain Patrick Logan (1791 – October 1830) was the commandant of the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement from 1826 until his death in 1830 at the hands of Aboriginal Australians who objected to him entering their lands. As he had been hated by convicts, there were rumours that escaped convicts living in the bush had attacked him, but there is no evidence of this. Born in East Renton, Berwickshire, Scotland, he was the youngest son of a Scottish landowner and farmer, Abraham Logan and Janet Johnstown. He was baptised at Coldingham, Berwickshire on 15 November 1791. Logan had a distinguished military career. He was known as a strict commandant of the penal colony to the point of cruelty.
