Muhammad Sharif Othman
Dato' Haji Muhamad Sharip bin Haji Othman, DTNS, 11th ''Dato' Lela Maharaja'' (born 14 August 1941 at Chembong Kecil, Rembau), is the 21st and current Undang of Luak Rembau. Muhamad is a direct descendant of the Dato' Lela Maharaja Suku Biduanda, of the Waris Nan Dua Carak (Perut Tebat) a sub-clan of the Biduanda clan. He is the head of the Waris Jakun lineage (who hold the hereditary title of ''Dato' Lela Maharaja''); the other noble lineage of Rembau is the Waris Jawa (who hold the hereditary title of Dato' Sedia di-Raja). He was elected and installed as the Undang of Rembau on 21 November 1998. Rembau District
The Rembau District is a district that is located in the state of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The district is a stronghold of the matrilineal system known as ''adat perpatih'', a customary practice inherited from the Minangkabaus, of Sumatra. The district borders Seremban District to the north, Port Dickson District to the west, Tampin District to the east, Kuala Pilah District to the northeast and Alor Gajah District, Malacca to the southwest. Rembau still maintains the old district ruler, which used to be called the district head or Penghulu. Now the title is Yang Teramat Mulia Undang Luak Rembau. Negeri Sembilan
Negeri Sembilan (, Negeri Sembilan Malay: ''Nogoghi Sombilan'', ''Nismilan'') is a state in Malaysia which lies on the western coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It borders Selangor on the north, Pahang in the east, and Malacca and Johor to the south. The name is believed to derive from the nine (''sembilan'') villages or '' nagari'' in the Minangkabau language (now known as ''luak'') settled by the Minangkabau, a people originally from West Sumatra (in present-day Indonesia). Minangkabau features are still visible today in traditional architecture and the dialect of Malay spoken. The Malay language has a complex system of styles, titles and honorifics which are used extensively in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the southern Philippines. Undang
An Undang is a ruling chief or territorial chief who still play an important role in the state of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The name is believed to be derived from the Malay word ''undang-undang'' meaning "law". The Minangkabau who settled at Negeri Sembilan, in present-day Malaysia at the end of the 17th century ruled by a ''"penghulu"'' or headman who was chosen from the noble families of Sakai and Jakun called Biduanda. These ''"penghulus"'', notably that of Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol and Rembau became powerful enough to exalt themselves above other ''"penghulus"''. These penghulus later acknowledged by the Sultan of the old Johor Empire as a sovereign in their own territory. By the early part of the 18th Century, the leaders of these four territories started calling themselves "Undang".
