Electoral District Of Cottesloe
Cottesloe is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Cottesloe is named for the western Perth suburb of Cottesloe which falls within its borders. Its previous member, Colin Barnett, was the 29th Premier of Western Australia. The current member, David Honey, was elected in a by-election after Barnett resigned in 2018. History Cottesloe was created at the 1948 redistribution, at which three new metropolitan electorates were created to replace former northern and agricultural seats in Parliament. Graylands Hospital
Graylands Hospital is Western Australia's largest mental health inpatient facility, and the only public stand-alone psychiatric teaching hospital. It is located on a site in Mount Claremont, in a suburb formerly known as Graylands, after which the hospital was named. The hospital has 178 beds, including 30 beds in the Frankland Centre, and 320 nurses on staff. History The area around the hospital, and some of its buildings, are registered by the state's Heritage Council. Earlier names for the site include "Claremont Hospital for the Insane" and "Swanbourne Hospital". In 1909, plans were drawn up for a new "quiet and chronic" block to relieve overcrowding in the male wards at the Claremont hospital. Transperth
Transperth is the brand name of the public transport system serving the city and suburban areas of Perth, the state capital of Western Australia. It is managed by the Public Transport Authority (PTA), a state government organisation. Train operations are done by Transperth Train Operations, a division of the PTA. Loch Street Railway Station
Loch Street railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Fremantle and Airport lines, eight kilometres from Perth station serving the suburbs of Claremont, Mount Claremont and Karrakatta. History Loch Street station opened in 1954. Its construction was part of the conversion of Perth's passenger train system from steam to diesel power, allowing smaller intervals between stations. On 18 August 2002, Loch Street had its regular services limited due to low passenger numbers, closeness to Karrakatta station (500 metres) and, prior to May 2009, the length of its platforms. The platforms weren't long enough to accommodate four car train sets, resulting in alternate trains skipping the station. Only two car train sets stopped, at night and on weekends. Karrakatta Railway Station
Karrakatta railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network in Western Australia. It is located on the Airport line and Fremantle line, from Perth station serving the suburb of Karrakatta. History Karrakatta station opened in 1886. The station closed on 1 September 1979 along with the rest of the Fremantle line, re-opening on 29 July 1983 when services were restored. The station has received Airport line services since 10 October 2022. Services Karrakatta station is served by the Airport and Fremantle lines on the Transperth network. Graylands Teachers College
Graylands Teachers College was a primary teacher education institution, established in 1955 in Mount Claremont (which was called Graylands at the time) in Western Australia. It became the second teachers' college to be established in the state after Claremont Teachers College, with three others established subsequently. Built on a former World War II army barracks site, most of the buildings were corrugated iron and asbestos structures which had only been intended to operate for about five years. The college was run by the Education Department until 1973, when it became an autonomous body under the umbrella of the Western Australian Teacher Education Authority. Swanbourne Hospital
Swanbourne Hospital is a heritage listed former mental hospital located in Mount Claremont, Western Australia. Built in 1904, it was the largest stand-alone psychiatric hospital in Western Australia for much of the twentieth century until its closure in September 1972. The hospital was originally known as Claremont Hospital for the Insane, Claremont Mental Hospital and Claremont Hospital. Following the closure of Claremont Hospital in 1972, the original 1904 section of the hospital functioned as the Swanbourne Hospital until 1985. The site was vacant from 1986, until renovated and reopened primarily as an aged care residence in 2018. Wollaston College (formerly John Wollaston Theological College ) is an Australian educational institution in Perth, Western Australia, established in 1957. It provides theological education for both lay and ordained people of the Anglican Diocese of Perth, as well as forms candidates for ordination in the Anglican Church of Australia.
