Mossman District Hospital is a heritage-listed public hospital at Johnston Road, Mossman, Shire of Douglas, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Hill & Taylor and built by J J Riley. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 12 June 2009. History Mossman District Hospital was built by contractor JJ Riley for the Port Douglas Hospitals Board, and was opened on 23 August 1930 by James Kenny, the Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly for Cook. It was constructed to plans prepared by the Department of Public Works for a standard pavilion-type timber and galvanised iron hospital, and amended by Cairns architects Hill and Taylor to incorporate evocative Spanish Mission style concrete facades. The Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Site consists of approximately 8,940 km2 of Australian wet tropical forests growing along the north-east Queensland portion of the Great Dividing Range. Daintree National Park
The Daintree rainforest is a national park in Far North Queensland, Australia, northwest of Brisbane and northwest of Cairns. It was founded in 1981 and is part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland. In 1988 it became a World Heritage Site. The park consists of two sections, with a settled agricultural area between them which includes the towns of Mossman and Daintree Village. Mount Carbine Tableland
The Mount Carbine Tableland is a plateau in Far North Queensland, Australia. Part of the Great Dividing Range, it lies in the Shire of Mareeba 15 km west of Mossman, and 1,460 km north-west of Brisbane, reaching an altitude of 1,383 m above sea level. It is largely covered with tropical rainforest and receives an annual rainfall total of 2,000 mm. The tablelands are part of the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage area. Mountains associated with the tableland include Mount Spurgeon (1,317 m), Roots Mount (1,313 m), Devils Thumb (1,258 m) and Black Mountain (1,311 m). Mossman River
The Mossman River is a river located in the Cape York Peninsula of Far North Queensland, Australia. The headwaters of the river rise under Devils Thumb on the Mount Carbine Tableland in the Great Dividing Range. The river flows through a deeply incised valley in the Mount Lewis Forest Reserve in an easterly direction and then through the Mossman Gorge, part of the Daintree National Park, and onto the coastal plain past the township of Mossman, where the river is crossed by the Captain Cook Highway. The river eventually discharges into Trinity Bay and the Coral Sea between Newell and Cooya Beach. The river descends over its course.
