The Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) is the public library system for residents of Montgomery County, Maryland. The system includes 21 publicly accessible branches and a public kiosk, as well as a branch in the Montgomery County Correctional facility. District Of Columbia Public Library
The District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) is the public library system for the District of Columbia, in the United States. The system includes 26 individual libraries including Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (the DCPL's central library). History The library was founded in 1896 by an act of Congress after a lobbying effort by Theodore W. Noyes, editor of the ''Washington Evening Star'' newspaper. Noyes served on the library's board of trustees for 50 years. The Arlington Public Library is a public library system located in Arlington County, Virginia. The library system includes nine locations that serve 214,373 people. Alexandria Library is the public library in Alexandria, Virginia in the United States. History In 1794, Alexandria Library opened as a private lending library, calling itself the Alexandria Library Company. In 1937, Dr. Robert South Barrett donated funds to build a public library in memory of his mother, physician Dr. Kate Waller Barrett (1857-1925). The Society of Friends granted a 99-year lease for use of its former Quaker Burial Ground (then used as a playground).
