Mohegan-Montauk-Narragansett Language
Mohegan-Pequot (also known as Mohegan-Pequot-Montauk, Secatogue, and Shinnecock-Poosepatuck; dialects in New England included Mohegan, Pequot, and Niantic; and on Long Island, Montaukett and Shinnecock) is an Algonquian language formerly spoken by indigenous peoples in southern present-day New England and eastern Long Island. Language endangerment and revitalization efforts As of 2014, there are between 1,400 and 1,700 recorded tribal members (these figures vary by source). The Mohegan language has been dormant for approximately 100 years; the last native speaker, Fidelia Fielding, died in 1908. Fielding, a descendant of Chief Uncas, is deemed the preserver of the language. She left four diaries that are being used in the 21st-century process of restoring the language. Bayside (band)
Bayside is an American punk rock band from the Bayside, Queens neighborhood of New York City, formed in 2000 by lead vocalist Anthony Raneri. The group also consists of lead guitarist Jack O'Shea, bassist Nick Ghanbarian, and drummer Chris Guglielmo. Montauk (LIRR Station)
Montauk is the terminus of the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road, as well as the easternmost railroad station on Long Island and in New York state. The station is located on Edgemere Street ( Suffolk County Route 49) and Fort Pond Road west of Montauk Harbor, New York. History Originally built in 1895 by the Brooklyn and Montauk Railroad, it was demolished in 1907, then rebuilt twenty years later, only to be relocated by the US Navy during World War II along with a great deal of Montauk itself. The Navy confiscated the property along Fort Pond Bay in order to transform it into a sea plane base, and moved the LIRR property to the south with a third station built in 1942. The station was built in a similar style to the second station, but not the same design. The Montauk Project is a conspiracy theory that alleges there were a series of United States government projects conducted at Camp Hero or Montauk Air Force Station in Montauk, New York, for the purpose of developing psychological warfare techniques and exotic research including time travel. The story of the Montauk Project originated in the ''Montauk Project'' series of books by Preston Nichols which intermixes those stories with stories about the Bulgarian Experiment. Origin Stories about the Montauk Project have circulated since the early 1980s. Montauk Point Lighthouse
The Montauk Point Light, or Montauk Point Lighthouse, is a lighthouse located adjacent to Montauk Point State Park, at the easternmost point of Long Island, in the hamlet of Montauk in the Town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, New York. The lighthouse was the first to be built within the state of New York, and was the first public works project of the new United States. It is the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States. Long Island listed on the National Register of Historic Places, in 2012, it was designated as a National Historic Landmark for its significance to New York and international shipping in the early Federal period. William Larrabee (Iowa)
William Larrabee (January 20, 1832 – November 16, 1912) was an American Republican politician from Iowa. He served as the 13th Governor of Iowa from 1886 until 1890. Early life Larrabee was born in Ledyard, Connecticut, into a family of French Huguenot extraction. His father, Adam Larrabee (1787–1869), was a West Point graduate and an accomplished soldier, who served with distinction in the War of 1812. His mother was Hannah (née Lester). Larrabee was the seventh of nine children, and grew up on his father's Connecticut farm. He was educated in local schools until the age of 19. At around age 15 Larrabee lost the eyesight in his right eye after a gun he was holding accidentally discharged. Background and production In December 2004, the band posted "Existing in a Crisis (Evelyn)" on their PureVolume profile; that same month, they supported My Chemical Romance for two shows. They played a few East Coast shows, and appeared at the South by Southwest music conference, leading up to the recording of their next album. ''Bayside'' was recorded at Sheppard Music in New York City in March and April 2005, with Shep Goodman and Kenny Gioia acting as producers and engineers.
