The comic carried a mixture of humour and adventure strips, featuring the title character Buster and a host of other characters. Description The title character, whose strip usually appeared on the front cover, was Buster himself. He was originally billed as ''Buster: Son of Andy Capp''; Andy Capp is the lead character of the eponymous ''Daily Mirror'' newspaper strip, and Buster wore a similar flat cap to reinforce the connection. Barrie Appleby is a British comics artist who works mainly for Scottish publisher D. C. Thomson & Co., drawing strips such as Dennis the Menace and Roger the Dodger for ''The Beano'' since the 1970s. He has also drawn Cuddles and Dimples for ''The Dandy'', as well as strips for ''Nutty'', ''Hoot'', ''Monster Fun'' and '' Buster''. Robert Nixon (comics)
Robert Nixon (7 July 1939 – 22 October 2002) was an artist who worked on several British comics. Biography Early life and education Nixon was born in South Bank, Middlesbrough, in North Yorkshire on 7 July 1939. He was the fifth of six children born to Arthur Nixon and Phylis Thompson. Robert's mother Phylis worked as a housewife while his father worked locally as a steelworker. As a child, Nixon spent much of his time drawing and sketching, and his artistic skills were recognised when he was seven years old by teachers at Cromwell Road School which he attended in South Bank. During his early years as an artist, and supported by teachers at the Central Secondary Modern School (Victoria Street, Southbank), Nixon won several art competitions and a scholarship to Middlesbrough Art College in 1955 when he was sixteen. Grimly Feendish (alias The Rottenest Crook in the World) is a British comic book character created by Leo Baxendale in 1964, who originated in Baxendale's comic strip ''Eagle-Eye, Junior Spy'', published in the magazine ''Wham!''. He is Eagle-Eye's nemesis and functions as a creepy but amusing comic book villain. The character became so popular that between 1966 and 1969 he had his own spin-off strip, ''Grimley Feendish'' in '' Smash!'' Sweeny Toddler
''Sweeny Toddler'' (sometimes titled ''Help! It's Sweeny Toddler'') was a British comic strip by Leo Baxendale, which originally appeared in the British magazines ''Shiver and Shake'', ''Whoopee!'', ''Whizzer and Chips'' and finally '' Buster'' between 1973 and 2000. It was a gag-a-day about a little mischievous toddler. The name is a play on Sweeney Todd. Concept Originally drawn by Leo Baxendale, Sweeny was a two-year-old 'toddler from hell'. With his pet dog Henry, he caused havoc around town, the outcome of which would usually involve being caught by his parents and punished with the slipper.
