Mitchell is a suburb in the Northern Territory of Australia located in the city of Palmerston about south-east of Darwin City. Mitchell consists of land bounded by the centre of the channels of the Elizabeth River and Brooking Creek respectively to the south and to the east, the Channel Island Road and Roystonea Avenue to the west, and Bertram Road in part in the north. Mitchell's name is derived from A.J. Mitchell, a member of the Goyder expedition to the Northern Territory who was involved during 1869–70 in the surveying of land now part of the current city of Palmerston and its hinterland. The suburb's boundary and name were originally gazetted on 17 October 1984 and revoked on 5 December 2001. It was re-registered on 3 April 2007 with a new set of boundaries which were subsequently altered on 24 May 2018. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website. Results from the 2016 census were available to the public on 11 April 2017, from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website, two months earlier than for any previous census. Nature conservation is the moral philosophy and conservation movement focused on protecting species from extinction, maintaining and restoring habitats, enhancing ecosystem services, and protecting biological diversity. Weddell is located on land and some adjoining waters which are bounded in part by the Blackmore River in the west, the Elizabeth River in the east and the Cox Peninsula Road in the south.
