Minister Of Defence (Finland)
The Minister of Defence ( fi, puolustusministeri, sv, försvarsminister) is a member of the Finnish Council of State. As the head of the Ministry of Defence, the minister is responsible for the administration of national defence. The ministry is headquartered in Helsinki. The current Minister of Defence is Antti Kaikkonen. From June to November 1918 the post was called Chief of the War Department, and from then until 1922 the post was called the Minister of War. The President of the Republic is the commander-in-chief of the Finnish Defence Forces. The commander of the military forces is the Chief of Defence. Antti Kaikkonen
Antti Samuli Kaikkonen (born 14 February 1974 in Turku, Finland) is a Finnish politician of the Centre party. He has been a member of the Finnish Parliament from Uusimaa since 2003. Kaikkonen was the president of Finnish Centre Youth from 1997 to 2001. He has also been a member of Finnish Delegation to the Council of Europe since 2004. In 2013, Kaikkonen was convicted of corruption charges stemming from a campaign financing scandal. On 21 June 2016, Kaikkonen was chosen as the chairman of the Centre Party's parliamentary group. By 2019, Kaikkonen was parliamentary head of the coalition-leading Centre Party. Vilhelm Aleksander Thesleff
Wilhelm Aleksander Thesleff (27 July 1880, Viipurin maalaiskunta, Grand Duchy of Finland - 26 March 1941, Helsinki) was a Finnish general, first Minister of Defence of Finland and briefly the commander in chief of the Finnish army. Thesleff began a military career in 1894 Hamina Cadet School from which he graduated in 1901. He continued his military studies in St Petersburg, Nicholas General Staff Academy in the years 1904–1907, and the Officers Cavalry School 1910–1911. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel, 12 June 1912. Thesleff attended the first world war the Russian army in 1914–1917, until he was taken prisoner by the Germans in Riga in September 1917. In October 1917 he was transferred by request of the military committee to serve as a liaison officer between the Finnish Jäger battalion fighting under the German command and the Germans. Vilho Nenonen
Vilho Petter Nenonen (6 March 1883 – 17 February 1960) was a Finnish general. Nenonen was born in Kuopio. He received his military education in the Hamina Cadet School 1896–1901, in the Mihailov Artillery School in St Petersburg 1901–1903, and in St Petersburg Artillery Academy 1906–1909. He served in the Imperial Russian army during World War I. When the Finnish Civil War began, he moved to Finland and was given the job of creating the artillery of general Mannerheim's White Army. After the war, Nenonen also served as the Minister of Defence between 1923 and 1924. During the Continuation War, he was a part of Mannerheim's inner circle. Kyösti Kallio (; 10 April 1873 – 19 December 1940) was a Finnish politician of the Agrarian League who served as the fourth president of Finland from 1937–1940; his presidency included leading the country through the Winter War. Bruno Jalander (28 August 1872 – 14 December 1966) was a Finnish military officer who served as minister of war in the post-World War I period between 1920 and 1923. Early life Jalander was born in Brahestad on 28 August 1872. He was educated at the Finnish Cadet Corps in Fredrikshamn. Career and activities Jalander served in Nyland's Finnish sniper battalion until the Finnish national military was disbanded. For three years he served with a Russian troop unit in the Caucasus. However, he left the army and worked in different jobs such as deputy chief of police and insurance inspector.
