The Mingo people are an Iroquoian Peoples, Iroquoian group of Native Americans in the United States, Native Americans, primarily Seneca people, Seneca and Cayuga people, Cayuga, who migrated west from New York to the Ohio Country in the mid-18th century, and their descendants. Some Susquehannock survivors also joined them, and assimilated. English-American, Anglo-Americans called these migrants ''mingos'', a corruption of , an Eastern Algonquian name for Iroquoian-language groups in general. The Mingo have also been called "Ohio Iroquois" and "Ohio Seneca". Most were forced to move from Ohio to Indian Territory in the early 1830s under the federal Indian Removal program.
