Microsoft Mobile
Microsoft Mobile was a subsidiary of Microsoft involved in the development and manufacturing of mobile phones. Based in Espoo, Finland, it was established in 2014 following the acquisition of Nokia's Devices and Services division by Microsoft in a deal valued at €5.4 billion, which was completed in April 2014. Nokia's then-CEO, Stephen Elop, joined Microsoft as president of its Devices division following the acquisition, and the acquisition was part of Steve Ballmer's strategy to turn Microsoft into a "devices and services" company. Under a 10-year licensing agreement, Microsoft Mobile held rights to sell feature phones running the S30+ platform under the Nokia brand. Tieto Keilalahti Campus
Tieto Keilalahti Campus/Microsoft Talo (formerly named Nokia House) is the head office building of Tieto and Microsoft Finland, located in Keilaniemi, Espoo, just outside Helsinki, the capital of Finland. History The campus was built between 1995-1997 as headquarters for Nokia by architect Pekka Helin. It comprises three separate structures: The two most southern parts of the building were built in the early 1990s and the third, most northern part was built in 2000. Nokia operated in the building from 1997 to 2014, with around 5000 employees working in the premises. They owned the building up until December 2012, when it was announced that it had been sold to Finland-based Exilion for €170 million. Nokia continued using the building as its head office, leasing it on a long-term basis. Microsoft Kin
Kin was a short-lived mobile phone line from Microsoft designed for users of social networking. The phones, aimed at people between ages 15 and 30, were manufactured by Sharp Corporation and sold through Verizon Wireless. Microsoft invested two years and about US$1 billion developing the Kin platform, beginning with its acquisition of Danger Incorporated. The Kin was based on Windows CE. The Kin ONE and TWO went on the market on May 14, 2010. Within two months, Verizon stopped selling the phones because of poor sales. Microsoft scrapped its planned European release, stopped promoting the devices, ceased production, and reassigned the Kin development team to other projects. Windows 10 Mobile
Windows 10 Mobile is a discontinued mobile operating system developed by Microsoft. First released in 2015, it is a successor to Windows Phone 8.1, but was marketed by Microsoft as being an edition of its PC operating system Windows 10. Windows 10 Mobile aimed to provide greater consistency with its counterpart for PCs, including more extensive synchronization of content, Universal Windows Platform apps, as well as the capability, on supported hardware, to connect devices to an external display and use a desktop interface with mouse and keyboard input support (reminiscent of Windows on PCs). Joe Belfiore
Joe Belfiore is an American business executive who has held various roles at Microsoft since August 1990, mostly in the field of user experience. He is currently the Corporate Vice President in the Experiences and Devices division of Microsoft. A frequent speaker, Belfiore has appeared at many Microsoft conferences, often giving demos on stage. He has also hosted a TED Talk. Belfiore intends to retire from Microsoft early summer 2023.
