Michael Reed (cinematographer)
Michael Reed, (7 July 1929 – 15 December 2022) was a Canadian-born British cinematographer who worked on several films from the 1950s to 1980s, including ''Dracula: Prince of Darkness'' and ''Shout at the Devil (movie), Shout at the Devil''. Career Through the early 1950s he worked in the camera department at Hammer Films as a clapper loader and focus puller on films such as ''The Man in Black (film), The Man in Black'' and ''Meet Simon Cherry'' before becoming the director of photography on Hammer's ''The Ugly Duckling (1959 film), The Ugly Duckling'' (1959) and several Hammer horror films. He acted as director of photography on several ITC Entertainment, ITC television series such as ''Sword of Freedom'', ''The Adventures of Robin Hood (TV series), The Adventures of Robin Hood'' and ''The Saint (TV series), The Saint''. Cinematography
Cinematography (from ancient Greek κίνημα, ''kìnema'' "movement" and γράφειν, ''gràphein'' "to write") is the art of motion picture (and more recently, electronic video camera) photography. Cinematographers use a lens to focus reflected light from objects into a real image that is transferred to some image sensor or light-sensitive material inside a movie camera. These exposures are created sequentially and preserved for later processing and viewing as a motion picture. Capturing images with an electronic image sensor produces an electrical charge for each pixel in the image, which is electronically processed and stored in a video file for subsequent processing or display. Images captured with photographic emulsion result in a series of invisible latent images on the film stock, which are chemically " developed" into a visible image. ''On Her Majesty's Secret Service'' is a 1969 spy film and the sixth in the ''James Bond'' series produced by Eon Productions. It is based on the 1963 novel by Ian Fleming. Following Sean Connery's decision to retire from the role after '' You Only Live Twice'', Eon selected George Lazenby, a model with no prior acting credits, to play the part of James Bond. During filming, Lazenby announced that he would play the role of Bond only once. ''Galileo'' is a 1975 biographical film about the 16th- and 17th-century scientist Galileo Galilei, whose astronomical observations with the newly invented telescope led to a profound conflict with the Roman Catholic Church. The film is an adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's 1943 play of the same name. The film was produced by Ely Landau for the American Film Theatre, which presented thirteen film adaptations of plays in the United States from 1973 to 1975. Brecht's play was recently called a "masterpiece" by veteran theater critic Michael Billington, as Martin Esslin had in 1960. The film's director, Joseph Losey, had also directed the first performances of the play in 1947 in the US — with Brecht's active participation. ''Rasputin the Mad Monk'' is a 1966 Hammer horror film directed by Don Sharp and starring Christopher Lee as Grigori Rasputin, the Russian peasant- mystic who gained great influence with the Tsars prior to the Russian Revolution. It also features Barbara Shelley, Francis Matthews, Suzan Farmer, Richard Pasco, Dinsdale Landen and Renée Asherson. The story is largely fictionalized, although some of the events leading up to Rasputin's assassination are very loosely based on Prince Yusupov's account of the story. ''Devil's Bait'' is a 1959 black and white British drama film directed by Peter Graham Scott and starring Geoffrey Keen, Jane Hylton and Gordon Jackson.Chibnall & McFarlane, pp. 274-76. It was a second feature, made for release by the Rank Organisation. Plot Joe Frisby calls Dr Mack at the town hall to make another complaint about rats eating his flour. Although the Dr says the council rat catchers are on honeymoon, the telephone exchange girl decides to give Frisby a lead on a cheap rat-catcher. He is put in touch with Mr Love, who has no qualifications whatsoever. Love improvises on his container for mixing his rat poison by using a loaf tin. Luckily (for the plot) this is very distinctive, with a side split which causes the bread to be mis-shapen.
