Michael D. Plummer
Michael David Plummer (born 1937) is a retired mathematics professor from Vanderbilt University. His field of work is in graph theory in which he has produced over a hundred papers and publications. He has also spoken at over a hundred and fifty guest lectures around the world. Education and career Plummer was born in Akron, Ohio on August 31, 1937. He grew up in Lima, Ohio where he attended Lima Central High School, graduating in 1955. He then went to Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana on an honor scholarship, with a double major in mathematics and physics. He then took a graduate fellowship in physics at the University of Michigan, but after one year of the program, switched to mathematics; in 1966 he was awarded his Ph.D., with a thesis supervised by Frank Harary.Curriculum vitae Summer China Program, retr ... Mathematics
Mathematics is an area of knowledge that includes the topics of numbers, formulas and related structures, shapes and the spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes. These topics are represented in modern mathematics with the major subdisciplines of number theory, algebra, geometry, and analysis, respectively. There is no general consensus among mathematicians about a common definition for their academic discipline. Most mathematical activity involves the discovery of properties of abstract objects and the use of pure reason to prove them.
