Melville Water
Melville Water is a significant section of the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia. It is located west and downstream of Perth Water, from which it is separated by the Narrows Bridge. Name Melville Water was named in 1827 by Captain James Stirling, after 2nd Viscount Melville. The land south of Melville Water was named Melville Water Park Estate (in the area that is now Applecross) and was subdivided for development in 1896. Extent Melville Water lies between Point Resolution and Point Walter to the west, Point Heathcote at the mouth of the Canning River to the south-east, and the Narrows Bridge where it meets Perth Water to the north-east. In that space it has marine parks (Swan Estuary marine park in Lucky Bay and Alfred Cove), water ski areas (Waylen Bay, and Point Walter) as well as the Narrows Personal Water Craft Freestyle Area. Point Heathcote (Goolugatup in Noongar) is a geographic feature located on the south east part of Melville Water on Swan River. It is located in Applecross, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. History The area was named after George Gage Heathcote, son of Admiral Sir Henry Heathcote, a midshipman on HMS ''Success'', who is said to have been the first European to land there. Attadale, Western Australia
Attadale is a riverside suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Melville. It was the first subdivision of Matheson's Melville Water Park Estate. Attadale was named after an estate in Scotland situated on the south side of Loch Carron. The suburb is located between the central business district and Fremantle along the southern side of the Swan River. Alfred Cove, Western Australia
Alfred Cove is a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. Its local government area is the City of Melville. History It is named after the adjacent sheltered cove in the Swan River, which is in turn named after Alfred Waylen who was born at Point Walter in 1833 and who was granted Swan Location 74, covering most of present-day Alfred Cove and Myaree. The suburb contains Tompkins Park, Bill Sweet Park and Sid Eaton Reserve. As of 2016, Alfred Cove had a population of 2,550. Wildlife The suburb is home to a variety of migrant and native species of birds and animals as the hinterland offers a comfortable habitat including the mudflats, seagrass beds and intertidal vegetation. South Perth is a residential suburb of Perth, Western Australia that adjoins the southern shore of Perth Water on the Swan River; it is south of the central business district. Pelican Point (Swan River)
Pelican Point is a geographical feature and nature reserve on the Swan River in Perth, located at Matilda Bay near the University of Western Australia. The point is named for the pelicans that rest on sand bars at the end of the point. Pelican Point was formerly named Point Currie after Captain Currie, who in 1829 received an allotment of land in the area and which became known as Crawley. Point Walter
Point Walter (Noongar: ''Dyoondalup'') is a point on the Swan River, Western Australia, notable for its large sandbar that extends into the river. It is located on the southern shore of Melville Water, and forms its western end. Point Walter is located in the suburb of Bicton, approximately south of the Perth central business district, and north-east of Fremantle, and is on the opposite side of the river to the suburbs of Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove, and Dalkeith. Point Walter is a site of Aboriginal Australian heritage, both for its place in the Dreamtime and because of the local Whadjuk people's historical activities at the site. Mosman Park, Western Australia
Mosman Park is a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia on the north bank of the Swan River in the local government area of the Town of Mosman Park. It was historically known as Buckland Hill (1889-1909), then Cottesloe Beach (1909-1930) and again Buckland Hill (1930-1937).
